Pretty In Pink Layers Like a 1920 Cupcake

April 30, 2009

From my last vintage shopping adventure I found much more than just accessories- in fact, I even found *two* dresses from the 1920s that fit me exactly. Wow, what finds- one is a wedding dress (post to come soon, patience!) and the other is this Spanish Flamenco dress!

Talk about something that makes you want to spin and twirl, this was an incredible find. From the rose coloring to the puffy layered sleeves- I feel like a giant tiered cake ready to go dancing.

This dress is incredible- and the back is something to look at as well. Nothing but eye-hooks (which makes it difficult to put on by yourself, definitely a two person job dress). Which is why in these photos I only hooked one or two to keep it from falling off for photos, you can see in the top photo with the sleeves it is unbuttoned. Otherwise it is a nice fit.

It’s so shiny, too- makes me feel like a giant cupcake, nom! The way it moves is heavenly, and there is plenty of skirt- layers and layers. Definitely has some weight on it which is also quite nice, you can really feel the movement of the dress.

It is in pretty great condition; all it needs is a cleaning and maybe a steam press for an overall polished look- but it is otherwise ready to go. This is a dress that brings occasions to it.

Glamor With Vintage Golden Leaves

April 29, 2009

Don’t you just love vintage accessories? This one inspires glamor into any outfit, however casual or elegant it may be. The design is simple, yet delicate and sophisticated with a very rich finishing look.

When I first spotted this bracelet, I thought it was gorgeous but had concern- those edges look like the snagging kind, and can quickly ruin an outfit. However once I put it on and gave it a quick little test, I was surprised- nothing happened. In fact, I couldn’t even get it to snag however hard I tried- brilliant. The way the leaves clasp together leave a smooth edge that keeps in and doesn’t attach itself onto clothing.

So this is my new glamor toy and statement piece- it is gold, elegant, and perfect!

Just the piece of vintage I was looking for to give my modern wardrobe the new twist and added glamor I’ve been wanting.

Some accessories are timeless; constantly allowing themselves to be reinvented over and over again. Perhaps that is why I love vintage so much- there is always a story and a history beyond the look and feel.

Vintage With A Walk On The Wild Side

April 28, 2009

So my morning post quickly turned into an afternoon post once I realized my camera was completely dead and needed to be charged! But that’s okay, I am ready now and want to begin with a wooden necklace I found in a vintage shop while in Seattle that definitely walks on the wild side.

I found so many unique treasures on this trip, it is insane!

Do you have a thing for shattered mixed up pieces on a necklace? I know I do, though normally I must admit it tends to be along the lines of pieces of shells, it never crossed my mind to seek out a wooden alternative.

I love everything about this necklace- from the dark to medium and light wood shades, to the texture, to the bold animals resting on either side. It is fabulous!

And a necklace like this can change up an outfit completely, too- it is a statement piece. An otherwise casual and simple outfit really pops with an accessory such as this one. It is very unique and very bold- I adore it.

Animals in my accessories is something I am always looking for, but can be sometimes difficult to do without looking akward or just strange- this one does the look very well while being wild but still having that classy and sophisticated feel.

Wooden jewelry is wonderful for experimenting with “wild” themes since it has such a natural base to work with. A pattern on a wooden bracelet somehow looks much more elegant than the same pattern on a plastic one.

This one is a new favorite of mine, it’s just the balance of big and chunky yet still sophisticated that I love.

April 27, 2009

For those of you who follow me on twitter, too- you’ve probably noticed my tweets have been very quiet lately! I have been traveling (with a bit more coming up soon as well) however, where I was my phone had no reception during the entire trip!

I entertained myself with the company of some amazing friends and had an incredible time- we also did a bit of shopping and WOW do I ever have some killer posts coming up. I am so excited, some of these items I still can’t even believe are real… seriously insane finds (including a vintage 1920′s wedding dress!).

But more on that later! I have some fun items coming up, and just wanted to let you all in on what has been happening. I’ll be posting first thing tomorrow- see you then!

Delicious Pear Salad With Goat Cheese- Nom! ♥

April 25, 2009

Alright, I am traveling at the moment- but right before leaving we had some food in the refrigerator that we wanted to finish first. There wasn’t much left, but enough random items to wonder what to do with.  Very quickly, I took what we had left and curiously mixed it all together to see what would become of it- wow, I am making this one again!

All we had left in the fridge was some Napa Cabbage, and goat cheese. We also had some red pears sitting on the counter that needed to be eaten. I love pears, and I love them on salads so I mixed them together and crumbled the goat cheese all over the salad. For dressing, I just drizzled on some aged balsamic vinegar and I was done.

Fantastic- the goat cheese with the red pears alone taste marvelous… so dreamy, a perfect snack. And the balsamic vinegar with the cabbage make the whole thing work, too.

If you are making this at home, you an use any ‘green’ you chose- maybe even some arugla, mixed greens, or spinach leaves. Make it your own, and if you don’t feel like having a salad, the red pears sliced and covered in goat cheese crumbles is a wonderful treat! Drizzle a little balsamic vinegar for some extra taste- I love this combination!

So there you have it, a last minute uncertainty turned into a delicious surprise!

Now This Is Absolutely Wild, Roar!

April 23, 2009

Who else loves matching their nail polish to their shoes or favorite accessory? It makes a bold and beautiful statement, and an otherwise simple outfit incredibly fabulous. But take a walk on the wild side with me for a moment- this is a look that is certainly wild!

Now, I’ve posted on my nails that purr before, and even with different variations- but this takes the look on a whole new spin. I had completely forgotten about these adorable heeled booties until I started going through some of my old shoes.

My nails were already painted with the print- I am going to be doing a bit of traveling for the next few days, and the beautiful thing about this look is that respond well to travel, meaning that when they chip it is very subtle and almost looks like a rustic version of the look. Very low maintenance for a fabulous look.

Anyway, with my nails painted the way they are, the instant I saw these booties I knew it was time to bring them out!

I am packing some wintery clothing items- and I think these boots and my nails are just the wow factor I am looking for. Even with an all black outfit (tights and all) these two items will really stand out together.

The shoes I think are Bertini if I am remembering correctly- the name inside has worn out but the shoes themselves are still pristine. I found them for under twenty dollars at one of my shops in Miami, I love finds like that.

Here’s to matching on the wild side- rawr!

It is with that in mind that I am incredibly excited and honored to announce the Pretty and Fabulous sponsorship from YesStyle!

They are my latest obsession, and with great and fabulous reason; there is something for everyone and for all of my moods and attitudes. For the times I am feeling old hollywood glamor to the times I am feeling like I am five again, they have the style that meets my needs. Not to mention a pretty and fabulous price, very affordable with items ranging from around $20 up to the bigger designers. I love it and cannot wait for you to take a look and see for yourself. I want to know what you like the most.

The Accessories section is like a candy store- sometimes very literally! With designer brands like “Fit-To-Kill” and “FairyTales” it is like a fashion wonderland! Even the names are spectacular.

Because they have so many styles available, this is also a great place for getting gifts for that finicky fashinista- they are bound to have something clever that caters to their individual personality. I already have things in mind for some of my friends that I know they are going to love and be the envy at every party they attend!

Here are some looks I am loving right now, one from Dodostyle and another adorable dress from Spring Girl, I think they are perfect for spring’s feminine image.

Sophisticated classy dresses, girly frilly looks, even casual wear with sweaters and jeans- there is a look for you and this is why I love it so much and am presenting it to you!

This is how much creative they can be- and since I am a sucker for an adorable charm bracelet, let alone candy influenced designs, check this one out:

Shoes, Pretty Please With A Cherry On Top?

April 22, 2009

Yes, shoes- pretty please, with a cherry on top? I love these and bought them ages ago, but darn their cuteness I keep bringing them out over and over again. The cheery bright yellow color and girlie feel makes me love them even more. And to top it all off, even with the cherries, it also ties with a bow at the ankle- how adorable!

They are from BCBG, and the moment I saw them I had to have them. At the time they also came in a wedge form, but the cherries were not as pronounced as they are in this version… also they didn’t have any in my size which helped with the decision process. I still love these little lovelies.

They are such a perfect spring and summer time shoe- and guaranteed to make you feel adorable when wearing them. How can you not smile with a pair shoes as lovely as these?

They are a joy- the perfect match for my floral and frilly dresses. Though honestly, with shoes like these- a simple outfit gets a whole new attitude from the shoes alone. I also enjoy wearing them with just a simple black dress, and let the shoes be the focus.

Ha, I suppose that makes it two pairs of shoes I have with cherries on them.. what can I say, I love them! Besides, these are completely a different animal (oops, the theme of my next shoe post! you are going to love this! patience…!)

Feminine Soft Curls and A Big Red Bow

April 21, 2009

So I woke up this morning feeling especially girlie and feminine, it is such a beautiful day outside perhaps it is the sunshine coming in that is inspiring me. Looking into my closet I knew exactly what I wanted to wear- a white frilly dress, and my hair in soft curls with a bright red ribbon.

I have my curls very subtle, I like them that way with this type of look. They become more noticeable in the wind or when I walk- and I like that. With my dress being very simple and white, I wanted to add a bold color into the mix and thought the red ribbon was just the thing, and still keeps true to the girlie theme I am playing with here.

I also added a little bit of a puff to the pony tail portion of this look, I rarely wear my hair half up and half down, but when I do I like the subtle puff since otherwise it can feel to flat on top. I find it keeps a beautiful balance as it transitions into the curls or waves below.

And the dress- I love a simple yet frilly dress. Love it. If it makes me want to twirl when I am wearing it then I instantly want it. It’s the child in me, and I like to keep it happy (only child, naturally).

I found this dress some time ago I believe at forever twenty one, I haven’t worn it yet this year so I am delighted to be playing in it now.

Oh, did I mention it has the most adorable pockets on the sides? What makes me love this dress in particular is that the uneven hem is longer on the sides rather than the front and back. It is just slightly different and makes it all the more unique and wonderful.

It also has a very vintage look and feel about it, as if it once belonged to an old doll or was hand made from mom.

Even the pockets are larger than normal, giving that feeling of being a child and wanting to fill them with candy! This is certainly a fun one.
