A Walk In Wonderland

April 17, 2010

There are some things I simply cannot resist, like channeling my childhood love of fashion! Alice in Wonderland is a favorite of mine and I adore anything that resembles something of the story or makes me think of it. It is an inspirational source for me.

So when I spotted this dress on yesstyle.com it was an absolute must. Sometimes you just have to have fun and go for it. It makes me feel ready for a tea party where the dormouse might show up (it even inspired me to bring out an old toy from childhood, ha).

THE DRESS:

JESSICA BROOKE: Ruffle Bib Pleated Dress

Available on YESSTYLE.com

Okay, it isn’t your everyday casual dress, but so what. Sometimes you have to do something just because you want to and it makes you smile. This dress could also be worn in an editorial style with a nice elegant updo, but I wanted to keep it young and fresh. The ruffles are adorable and the fit is feminine but fun. It is also available in black which is a more gothic look, but also opens plenty of opportunities for fun styling.

For me, this dress is a reward to my childhood love and bringing in with fashion. What are some of your childhood loves and how do you incorporate them into your style?

If an outfit is too daring, there is always the subtle but still fun approach of accessories (just like this one: darling bunny and flower earrings that are simply adorable).

  1. Mmmh so just like the “Trendy Marie Antoinette as seen by Sofia Coppola”, I Frankly think that there is an “Alice in Wonderland” who’s slumbering on any contemporary Fashionista . . . And you give us such a dizzy (kindly astounding) illustration of that Here Dear !!!

  2. Oh how I love ruffles. Love the dress, looks great on you. I would buy this dress. I love the pleated front and belt-like waist, this would be my kind of dress. Since I had my daughter, my waist-line hasn’t gone down. I lost the weight, but not the belly. It’s hard for me to find dress that would compliment my waist line. so Sad..hahaha. U look great, enjoy =)

  3. Thank you, Antoine; I had not thought of that but like it and do now!

May, it was the ruffles and pleats that drew me in to this one! And you are right it would be great for complimenting the waistline. You can have fun with it in your style- either something that’s fitted on top and flairs or flows down (so elegant and feminine) or play with the dropped waist styles of the later 1920′s. Jackets with angles on the front add a great play on the eyes and structure! Watch how your eyes move with the fabric and lines, and the silhouettes you can create with your wardrobe. Spring has lots of pretty dresses to offer that do just the thing ;)
