Another Look Into A Wonderland Film & Lewis Carroll With Phantasmagoria
June 25, 2009
All this discussion of a new Alice In Wonderland film reminds me of one I have been very anxious to come out. Phantasmagoria: The Visions Of Lewis Carroll is a film that has been in the making for some time now by Marilyn Manson.
Love him or hate him, there is no denying the art and perspective that comes with the man; his videos and shows are very beautiful to see. When he first began the concept of this film his focus was with the story of Alice In Wonderland, however after researching into Lewis Carroll and his story, Manson soon found great interest and a need to tell this tale. The role of Alice In Wonderland plays a big role in Lewis Carroll’s life and will have a great part in this film as well.
Manson has said that he wishes to “redefine the horror genre” and that “It’s kind of a return to Hitchcock-style psychological horror about letting your mind do the damage and sometimes what you don’t see is scarier.” His aim is to be unconventional by being traditional.

The synopsis of this film is as follows:
“Victorian Enlgland.
A haunted writer in an isolated castle is tormented by sleepless nights and visions of a girl named Alice. He finds himself becoming a symptom of his own invention.
“Now all my nightmares know my name.”
He is Lewis Carroll. Terrified of what waits for him each night.”
Current casting has Marilyn Manson as Lewis Carroll, Lily Cole as Alice, Evan Rachel Wood as Alice’s alter ego, and Tilda Swinton as Lewis Caroll’s dream wife. Angelina Jolie is also said to be in negotiation for the role of The Red Queen but nothing has yet been set. Production has been put on hold until Manson’s next release, but we are to expect an unconventional release. Time will only tell, though I hope it is sooner than later.

A Visit Into Wonderland From Tim Burton
June 23, 2009

All this discussion of cartoons, villains, and characters we’ve loved since childhood always draws me right into wonderland. And with news of Tim Burton’s next movie to be “Wonderland” I felt it a must to bring up.
Now, I have mixed feelings about this honestly. I have a difficult time these days to get excited over any movie… The Dark Knight was the last movie that really delighted the child inside me, keeping true to the integrity of the characters and story. But so many movies these days take classics and “revive” them with a campy unnecessary or just completely wrong twist. My opinion only of course, but I save judgement until after the movie is out and I have seen it. Only then will I know.
In the mean time I will indulge in the photos as I keep a cautious eye and ear in mind. Alice In Wonderland is very dear to me and so I do not want my heart broken.
This movie is to take a different story but with the classic’s tale in mind. In Tim Burton’s wonderland, Alice is 17 years of age and attending a party at a Victorian estate. She soon discovers that she is about to be proposed to in front of hundreds of snooty society types, to which she then runs off, following a white rabbit into a hole which returns her to Wonderland. In this film, wonderland is a place she has once visisted 10 years before but does not recall it. I think this allows for more possibilities for Tim Burton to put his own creative take and not disturb the classic. Creating a twist from the story from the beginning leaves some room for freedoms. We shall see how it all comes together in 2010.
Below are some photos courtesy of stylefrizz of Johnny Depp as The Mad Hatter, Helena Bonham Carter as the Red Queen, and Anne Hathaway as the White Queen.

More Dark Knight Exclusive Love
December 9, 2008
Midnight last night- of course, I was out there to be among the first with the Dark Knight movie as well as the luxurious goodies that come with it. I adore this movie, it is so beautifully dark and so incredibly well done- this is what I wanted to see in a Batman movie. And Heath Ledger did not disappoint- I am still amazed and in awe.
I am all about the joker, too- always have been a fan of the villains.. definitely more exciting when it comes to entertainment. And this joker is just the behavior I want in a villain- dark, mad, and real.

Oh, I love it. And I had to purchase the Best Buy limited edition box with the mask the Joker wears during the bank robbery, no question there. Best Buy also offers a box which includes a batman mask, though honestly I do not find it to be anything exciting, it is okay- eh. I am bias of course, the Joker is just much more interesting to me, plus there are far greater batman pieces within the batman animated series- the joker and other villains rarely get such attention.
I also had to get the Walmart exclusive which has a Two-Face coin- how neat is that? It is a good one, too. I am quite impressed. Well done, bravo.
There were so many people outside the store at midnight, I couldn’t believe the line behind me. There was no end in sight.. It was a fun thing to be a part of- they even had a bat signal light up next to the store sign. I thought it was a nice touch. Goodies were limited, and unfortunately some never even made it to the store- shipment never arrived for the exclusive Joker card. I will see if they show up later and will pick mine up if that is the case. I cannot complain though- I was pretty fortunate.
Being early also means being one of the few to grab these goodies-how often does a chance like this come up; I wanted to be a part of it and find my geekiness in this affair quite appropriate. Much love, xx

Dark Knight Continues To Rise
July 19, 2008
Wow, wow. No spoilers are given if you are among those who have yet to see this gem. Be assured, you will not be dissapointed.
Dark, creepy and dirty the way I love it- no unnecessary dramas or cringing corny lines. Even the pictures I had seen prior to the film were new again when presented (context and watching things in action redefines them all and makes them so much more powerful).
As for the Joker, I could have not been more pleased with how Mr. Heath Ledger played the role- an absolute psychopathic killer and not the hum drum jester.
What appealed to me the most was how it was portrayed so real. The characters weren’t fantastic superhero cartoons, moreover they were carried out and reacted to as actual people behaving out in society.
For the man of his society to become the joker or the batman is what you see, not the man in tights dancing about and calling out lines. The city’s involvement and responses, too, further the reality of how such a spectacle would be applied to life. It is crime in the real sense, not of childish antics. The people’s fear is real and treated as real in their situation.
Harvey Dent’s character grows in the film, as any Batman Admirer would know or expect. Also not to disappoint I will leave my words of him there. Please note, you will not be disappointed here either.
[Yay]
Another viewing is in order for me, and I will also be seeing the film on IMAX. I am quite curious to see it from such a view. If you have yet to see it- WATCH IT though I am sure you certainly are; if you have already seen it, I would encourage you to watch it again, though you probably are.
