Nailene Gives Nails A New Look And Style

June 30, 2009

Having lovely nails is a necessity at all times- whether we are wearing nail polish or not. I know I prefer to have no nail polish over chipped nail polish at any time. Bad nails will ruin any fabulous look in an instant.

I am very grateful to have now discovered Nailene- not only are their products inexpensive but they are for the fashionista on the go. With fabulous press-on nails in beautiful designs, they also have many options for adding your own personal style into the mix. Like for instance, my new favorite toy:

This is the “French Tip Pen” and it comes in two colors- black or white. The beauty of this is how it makes applying a smooth line simple and quick. But do be aware that like anything else it takes some practice with your non dominant hand since it does act like a pen. I know I’ve gotten so used to a brush it took me a moment- but honestly by the second nail I forgot all about it and fell in love once again.

You could actually fill in the entire nail, too, if you wanted. I am going to explore the options available with this incredible tool- polka dots, little designs, stripes- oh so much to explore! A brush cannot give you that kind of flexibility or control. It applies smoothly with no glopping- just clean and beautiful.

Another luxury I have found out about this pen throughout the week is that as my nails do begin to chip, touching up takes seconds! It mixes in flawlessly and I can just fill in to missing pieces without anyone being the wiser. Love it.

If control is an issue for you they also offer these stickers you can put in place to provide a clean line. Just put them into place, swipe away with this nail polish pen- and you have a gorgeous look waiting for you.

The strips are great if you need them, though honestly I like to freehand it as I feel pretty comfortable and in control. It is especially nice, however, when you are in a hurry and don’t want to worry about it. There’s no excuse for bad nails, even on the rush.

I think I may use the stickers for playing with designs- placing them one over the other or next to each other for strips and zig zags. I’ll show you as I experiment and see what comes up.

They have so many fun options to play with, whether you are in a hurry or you have the time to really dress your nails up. I’ve been playing with some of their stickers they also offer- everything from little gems to pretty designs- just place them on the nail, layer a clear coat to keep it clean and in place, and you are done. I’ll give you a sneak peak at some of what I’ve done so far- but much more is to come soon.

Speak with you soon- if you start experimenting with your own ideas be sure to share them, I would love to see them!

Cigars, Fashion, & Style- But Of Course!

June 28, 2009

I love cigars, and when something unique like this limited edition box from La Flor Dominicana comes up- I am very excited! With art design by Ruben Toledo for the bands and cigar box, this duo is a magnificent piece worth looking into.

I was enjoying a cigar at my favorite cigar shop when the owner, Kenny, came up to me and showed me this beautiful box of cigars. It is the El Museo Limited Edition Box and can only be found from elite tobacconists and select department shops. Only 2000 boxes are to be produced with a retail price of $600, so once they’ve sold out that will be the end of this particular cigar’s production- and the box will remain a collectors piece forever.

Kenny has this lovely box available in his shop, and it is beautiful to look at and tempting to taste- but for the occasion it was created for, it is to be sold as a complete set with all profits donated to El Museo del Barrio.

La Flor Dominicana produce world class cigars of which I am very fond of. And to see a fine cigar paired up with a beautiful design for a great cause is grand. I must say, I would love to indulge in one- it is oh so tempting to discover the flavors of this unique cigar.

The designer, Ruben Toledo, was born in Havana, Cuba in 1961. He is a painter, sculptor and illustrator. His wife, a fashion designer, Isabel Toledo was also drawn to the project. For the two of them it was a project of personal meaning from their own history, and one they were very happy to be a part of.

So there you have it, loves- cigars, fashion, and style!

For more information about this project or the box design, visit Cigar Aficionado or El Museo.

Another Look Into A Wonderland Film & Lewis Carroll With Phantasmagoria

June 25, 2009

All this discussion of a new Alice In Wonderland film reminds me of one I have been very anxious to come out. Phantasmagoria: The Visions Of Lewis Carroll is a film that has been in the making for some time now by Marilyn Manson.

Love him or hate him, there is no denying the art and perspective that comes with the man; his videos and shows are very beautiful to see. When he first began the concept of this film his focus was with the story of Alice In Wonderland, however after researching into Lewis Carroll and his story, Manson soon found great interest and a need to tell this tale. The role of Alice In Wonderland plays a big role in Lewis Carroll’s life and will have a great part in this film as well.

Manson has said that he wishes to “redefine the horror genre” and that “It’s kind of a return to Hitchcock-style psychological horror about letting your mind do the damage and sometimes what you don’t see is scarier.” His aim is to be unconventional by being traditional.

The synopsis of this film is as follows:

“Victorian Enlgland.

A haunted writer in an isolated castle is tormented by sleepless nights and visions of a girl named Alice. He finds himself becoming a symptom of his own invention.

“Now all my nightmares know my name.”

He is Lewis Carroll. Terrified of what waits for him each night.”

Current casting has Marilyn Manson as Lewis Carroll, Lily Cole as Alice, Evan Rachel Wood as Alice’s alter ego, and Tilda Swinton as Lewis Caroll’s dream wife. Angelina Jolie is also said to be in negotiation for the role of The Red Queen but nothing has yet been set. Production has been put on hold until Manson’s next release, but we are to expect an unconventional release. Time will only tell, though I hope it is sooner than later.

Vintage Floral Hat For An Elegant Look

June 21, 2009

I love my collection of vintage hats, though it isn’t too often I get the chance to wear them. In the summer months though, I will occasionally bring out one of the more delicate hats I have and combine it with a french twist updo for an elegant and sleek look.

The hat here plays more like a hair accessory- it is feminine and delicate but very bold and stylish. I love the little details and colors of this piece, mostly consisting of a floral theme. But if you look carefully, the very back row piece is a beautiful line of bows. So darling!

The theme is almost as if from a fairy tale, but very wearable even in our modern times. I like to keep the rest of my outfit very simple with just a classic black dress, and maybe get playful with the accessories. Colors to accent are ideal and gold works very well with this hat in particular.

I think there is still room in our world for hats, kept classic with a modern twist.

Wearing this hat always makes me feel at my best, powerful, and elegant. I love that feeling! It isn’t an every day piece, but when worn it definitely makes the day a special one to remember.

Pretty New Pink Toy, Shiny & Ruffled Fabulous Jacket

June 7, 2009

If you’ll recall my first post from when I discovered yesstyle, you will remember how much I instantly fell in love with this insane jacket. It is an elegant shade of pink- more like a very light rose, feminine and elegant without being overwhelming. Very delicate and subtle. The material of satin shines beautifully, and just look at that texture- mesmerizing.

It began with being on my wish list, but that didn’t last too long. I knew I had to have it! So when it arrived I was ecstatic. My camera delay has been acting strange so here are some detailed shots below of the fabric- you can see more of the movement and look of the jacket above in the video I have posted for you!

This is the “Elbow Sleeve Satin Jacket” from HAEGAL, a featured designer label from yesstyle, and a fabulous one at that. The jacket also comes in a classic black color, but I couldn’t resist the subtle charms of this amazing rose hue.

In the photos they include on the site, the belt wrap is tied in the back- but when it first arrived to me I felt like wrapping it around the front, in a more traditional belt style. Both versions work fabulously, and I like the versatility.

I tied the jacket in the front so you could see both styles and how they differ- one is with a cinched waist while the other is a flowy and beautiful look.

And the jacket really is this beautiful, it just moves so naturally and each ruffle falls perfectly. It feels lovely on, as well. This definitely will give any look a haute makeover. This is fabulous.

Sneak Peak Into Style:

June 2, 2009

Alright, I normally wouldn’t do this but I am so excited I cannot help it! I was doing some shopping late last night and when I found these gems, I had to order them right away. My last purchase from this place completely impressed me and was beyond my expectations, so I am especially excited about this one!

First, I am only going to give you a glimpse of the shoes, this is my first shoe purchase with them and I will give you the honest details once they arrive. But check out these killer heels- haute.

I am in love with them already, and they were just what I was looking for. Everything about these killer heels is perfect and will definitely bring a bold and stylish statement to any outfit- any. Oh, I cannot wait to play with them!

Next! What actually brought me to browsing through the styles last night was this next selection. I love versatility in an item and seek it out in my wardrobe. Remember my vest on top of a vest? This next look is open to so many options it will be reinvented over and over again. Just look and see here below.

This dress is from Adela and is also found on YesStyle, along with all the selections featured in this post. I already have one dress from the Adela line and it is absolutely adorable, chic, and elegant. I’ll be showing it to you soon, too. What I remember especially about them is how beautiful the fabric was, it was nicely designed and very comfortable. So when I saw this dress, the smocked convertible chiffon pictured above, I was very excited.

It looks like a simple and elegant dress, right? But it doesn’t stop there, it is actually listed as a “skirt” and here is why:

See the double strand on the black dress- when it is left as a single long strand it becomes a very fashionable skirt, perfect for layers. Now, I wouldn’t wear it with a print t-shirt as pictured on the right, but I like the possibilities open- for instance maybe a button up short sleeve puffed shirt. I *do* very much like the flowy blouse with a matching vest though. What a sleek and simple look.

The dress, or “Smocked Convertible Chiffon Skirt”, comes in four colors to chose from, I chose the beige/cream one because I think I’ll personally get more use out of it. (I have so many black dresses as is, I think this color will stand out more in my closet with more variations to mix with).

Alright, these are my latest purchases that I am so excited about I had to tell you about them before they even arrive. You can be sure there will be a follow up post when they do! I’m feeling very confident about these gems.

All of these styles are from here if you would like to take a look for yourself- there is literally something for everyone. I love it. Also, you cannot beat the price.

Coming To You From The Future In Style

June 1, 2009

Every time I wear this dress I think, “the future” especially since Timothy has officially labled it the “I come from the future dress” ha ha. With a silver shine, shiny black belt, and unique collar- it definitely has a look and feel all to its own.

I found this fun little number some time ago at forever 21, and I still love wearing it now. It was the only thing like it at the time, and even now I still don’t see to many similar styles running around. I like having a look to myself, and this one is a fun one.

What I like about the dress, aside from the beautiful silver color, is the shape and design. I love how it has giant sleeves, a unique collar which can be closed or left open, a cinched waist that reveals the feminine form, and then builds up volume in the bottom of the dress. Volume and shape are things I love to play with in my fashion.

My silver heels passed away in an unfortunate rainy evening in South Beach, so until I find another I decided to wear my Michael Kors Grey bootie heels. Black pumps I think would also look lovely, but I felt like wearing my grays today. Ah, shoes.

For my hair, just a simple french twist with a clean puff on top. I added a headband for a final touch, it is there to look cute and has no other purpose in this instance! Timothy like’s to call this my “ballerina hair” which I can also agree with. I like the look, and it is elegant and comfortable at the same time. Lovely.

A Love Of Cocktails And Another Night At Anvil

May 31, 2009

Mmmm, I do love my cocktails- and the other night we had a real treat with some classic and beautiful cocktails at Anvil. These are beauties I look forward to having again soon.

With a place like this, I like to let the bartender select my drinks for me. This is their skill and I want them to have fun with it- I am the same way with my chef’s and their food. I am here to enjoy their talent with good tastes. Sebastian, our bartender we seek out by request, made some fantastic selections for me!

For instance, the Jack Rose- a classic cocktail of the 1920′s and 1930′s. What a lovely cocktail! Made with Applejack, Grenadine and Lemon juice, this may be a favorite of mine. It is so lovely with the right balance of flavor and texture. Enjoying it out of a vintage glass only adds more of the charm.

Another lovely drink from that same era would be The Last Word- love the name and the cocktail (pictured below). What a delicious beverage with a nice little hint of spice in the finish. I love the tartness of citrus, especially when it has the right balance, and a little spice can blend beautifully.

The Last Word consists of Gin, Lime Juice, Green Chartreuse, and Maraschino Liqueur- nom! Very refreshing, crisp, and delicious. A lovely way to begin an evening- the flavors just blend and melt so beautifully in your mouth.

This is one I could see myself having quite reguarly, it is perfect for any mood or event. I keep thinking about it, delicious!

Here we have the Smitten cocktail, which I had mentioned previously but had forgotten to take a photo of. I was prepared this time and captured this refreshing drink. I think this one would be so perfect by the pool on a warm day- the mint in this cocktail is delightful without being overpowering at all.

This cocktail consists of Gin, Campari, Lemon, and Mint. And it tastes as pretty as it looks.

And the final act was a beautiful one that tastes just as heavenly and dreamy as it looks- The Vanishing Act! Wow, this one is so lovely and rich in texture- yet light and welcoming, what a fantastic way to finish the evening.

Now, unfortunately with this one- I was not by it when it was made and don’t know of what it all consists of. The egg whites and bitters is all I can tell you- but I do plan on having this gem again next time I visit and returning home with the ingredients. So lovely!

All this writing has me ready for a cocktail, nom- speak with you soon, loves!

A Fabulous And “Flipped-Out” Do

May 21, 2009

This is my latest creation in hairstyle updos, and I must admit I am loving it even far more than expected! The idea came to me in an instant and I wasted no time getting to the results.

It is an elegant, chic, bold and definitely “flipped-out” do-and surprisingly simple and quick to do. I cannot wait to experiment further with it as there are so many options available. My hair is long, but there are still great possibilities for those with medium length hair as well. It works.

I’ll be featuring the step by step illustration of how to do this magnificent do in my next month’s issue of “The Pretty Society Exclusive Newsletter“- along with other great insights on food, beauty, wine, and more. I like to keep things interesting, and this will be a special issue to love.

I’ve been enjoying this look all day, and it has been holding well. From running errands to even sitting by the pool for bit this afternoon- I’ve been able to go from one place and outfit to another without the slightest hesitation. And the glamor is very present and strong with this look- it feels so fabulous!

I am calling it the “flipped-out do” because it is based off a technique I reveal in my BombshellBeauty Grand Collection. This one takes the technique to a whole new level, and the results are simply marvelous. I’ll be showing you variations you can do with the look as well in the next Newsletter edition of The Pretty Society- so be on the look for it for those of you who are signed up!

If you aren’t signed up yet and want in on the details, visit http://tinyurl.com/exclusive-newsletter for more.
