In the NAVY with Polka Dots

February 6, 2009

It is one of those days where I just feel like falling into the navy; not just the navy- but the deep navy with a touch of white polka dots.

I love my colors and navy blue is one that dances right between the classic black and the royal colors. It is a lovely color and I adore to wear it. It is sophisticated on its own which is grand and all, but I thought a little playfulness could brighten it up a bit and give it some more character. A more modern look for a beautiful afternoon.

Silhouettes and volume-adore what they contribute to style and so I adore to play with them. Balance can be tricky, but when taken the time for consideration the results are glamorous.

The navy in this outfit is within the short jacket and puffed little skirt. Because the two flare out in shape and silhouette I decided to wear a fitted and simple black top to blend the two together.

The bright white polka dots give the outfit a playful feel as do the adorable buttons of the jacket. I love this outfit, and with the weather being sunny with just a slight cool breeze (yes, I follow the sunshine even when the rest of the world is in snow) it makes for a perfect day to wear it. yay!

So what’s next? The hair of course- when I am feeling playful with an outfit it naturally follows into the hairstyle.

A little playful, a little messy, but still with a touch of elegance.

I wanted to wear my hair up today, this much I knew. I had yet to completely decide just how. So I did what I normally do in such situations. I play.

I started simple enough with a low pony tail, and then began to twist parts of my hair in various directions… sounds dangerous maybe but something fun generally comes out of it. Never know until you try. And so I did, and what began to be a questionable mess ended up a playful little delight.

Completely neat from the front, smooth on top and then all comes together in a boom. Loving it.

Sometimes you just have to go for it.

Anchor Me Some Accessories Aweigh

January 8, 2009

Don’t you just love unexpected and playful finds? Or one that inspires you for activities? Another beauty from my shopping incident the other day- I love it. This adorable little set looks like candy to me, it just pops with its bold cherry red color against the oh so bright white. It is perfect.

So darling and playful, I love it. Ready for a cruise or something of the sort, very inspiring. In the meantime they add character to any outfit.

They’ve put me in the mood for a cozy night with a movie- Anchors Aweigh in fact! Gene Kelly and Frank Sinatra, what is there not to love? Jerry from Tom & Jerry even makes an appearance, as one of my favorite childhood cartoons it makes it even more cozy and lovable.

Dancing In Dior For New Year’s

January 2, 2009

Because a gorgeous dress should have a gorgeous shoe to match, at least I think so. A beautiful inspiration in itself, really.

Now, my new year’s eve dress was something of a special occasion dress- and had the colors to and shine to keep talking for you. Of course, a dress of that nature needs shoes that can keep up with out competing. There must be a balance.

And in this case, Dior came to my rescue with these matching beauties-

If the shoe is fabulous- wear it. And these are definitely fabulous. When I first purchased them I didn’t even have the dress in mind. I only knew that I loved them and had to have them. I would figure out how to mix it in my wardrobe later (after all, with color- when all else fails wear a simple black dress and bright shoes). I wasn’t worried about it.

Then it occurred to me that not only do I have a dress in these colors- I actually have two that match perfectly. I had gotten them some time ago and nearly forgotten. The shoes vamp up the dresses in a whole new light, not to mention how adorable they are on their own.

I love it when things work out like that- and don’t they always?

It seems whenever I find a shoe, usually of a questionable color or style that is to die for on its own, and am in love with it even though I am not sure how I will wear it- it always works out in the end. Things appear when you need them to.

Bringing in the New Year Like Tinkerbell

December 31, 2008

No, you haven’t gone mad- I did say tinkerbell. It is new year’s eve and I think it is time for a little fun and glamour- and color and shine it is for me this year.

Green, shiny, and yellow- really? Sounds horrible but looks lovely on this gorgeous little dress. Make no doubt, this is definitely an occasion dress- whether you want it to be or not; it will make an occasion for you. I love making every day an occasion, but this one brings it up to a new level.

It is light and just flows off your skin- love the feeling! And the cut and style is beautiful- it makes me think of tinkerbell. Not so much in a Halloween costume sort of way, but in a glamorous and cute style. This is a dress that makes you smile- yellow definitely does that for me. And I love to wear yellow, it is just so cheery and pretty. The bottom of this dress is beautiful, too- the way it cuts down revealing different fabrics, textures, and colors- very playful.

We are about to start a new year and I say bring it in with bright vibrant colors, make it a theme, make it a character- make it enjoyable and make it your own. You want to start the new year feeling you best and dressing your best will do it. Bring it in this year with style and luxury.

From Runway To Reality Eyes

December 23, 2008

Who doesn’t love the fantasy and glamor of make up from the Runway. It is playful and bold- and it hast to be for it to really be noticed. Creativity is allowed to push the line as, after all- it is a show.

But that doesn’t mean all is lost or that it cannot be translated into reality. It should inspire us and give us new ideas for colors and lines.

One fashion show look can translate into five looks for the real life girl. Maybe its the use of blush, the placement of color on the lips contrasted against the eyes, maybe it is just the eyes alone.

There is always something that can be taken and used in your own beauty. Sometimes, even more subtle than we may realize.

After being dolled up for the Orangia fashion show, and quite literally “dolled” up- the dresses she designs are like goddess dolls, absolutely gorgeous yet comfortable and perfect for parties. Anyway- I adored the make up, it was so fun and doll like. I wanted to use it but in an actual wearable way.

I was just thinking about it recently and broke it down to its most simple element- the eyes. What makes this look so fabulous is the simplicity of the strong lines on the eyes (with bold lashes of course) and the well placed bright pink blush.

Well, why not just do a simple line, and keep the rest of the face clean? Mascara of course to lengthen and enhance the eye lashes, but really keep it simple.

And so I did; I kept the lips glossed but otherwise nude. Just some subtle shadow on the eye lids, but really emphasized the line of the eye with some eye liner.

I kept the line long and slightly upwards on the ends to keep it feminine and pretty. Using my Guerlain Mascara, I completed the look from the line outward and with a bit of color to make it pop even more.

It is subtle, but clean, elegant, and pretty. And of course, completely wearable in reality.

Honestly, I think it looks fine like this, but you could even add a hint of a bright pink blush on the cheeks to make the look more doll-like and still pull it off just fine.

It only takes a moment to do and I love the results.

Beautiful & Bold Betsey Shoes

September 17, 2008

Let’s talk about shoes, shall we. In my little spontaneous trip two of my purchases were Betsey Johnson Shoes.

There is no mistaking that bright pink box anywhere, or her shoes for that matter. They have a habit of standing out in their designs.

This is my new fun favorite little toy, the print is so bold and vibrant and the heel is simply devilish. Such a sultry little shoe- I love it.

It has just a subtle little peep toe opening in the front too, which gives it a unique little character.

A simple black dress certainly goes much further with this shoe. Little is necessary or otherwise it will compete. It is quite loud on its own (people have stopped me on the streets since I purchased them)!

Okay, now for the other pair- from red and black to black and white. Here we go.

This one is definitely younger in style and playful more than elegant. I love the black vinyl strap that wraps across the top- I think it is absolutely adorable!

Dots, little buckle, straps, open toe, and a high heel- how much fun is that? It’s precious and bold all together. What a delightful design!

Alright, more later. Much love and beautiful shoes, xx

Bold, Red, And Feeling Lucky With A Bow

August 28, 2008

I always thought I was an ox, and it was only recently I found out I am a rat. Being a Capricorn, my birthday is in January- which is the beginning of our year. Whenever I look at the Chinese fortunes, they are determined from year of birth. Naturally I always looked at it with my birth year in mind, the one designated by our calendar. It never occurred to me to look at it with the Chinese Calendar in mind. Obvious, I know now- since their year begins in February- that makes my birth year the previous one, and thus I am a rat.

Anyway, we are currently in the year of the Rat, which is what brings me to this post. Wearing a red ribbon (traditionally around the waist, wrist, or ankle) during your Animal year (which cycles every 12 years) brings you luck. As I am now aware that it is currently my year, I thought it nice to incorporate it into my fashion.

I tend to do so with a big and bright red ribbon around my wrist or as a belt around my waste (outfit allowing of course). The ribbon I have been using is a very distinct red, and when I found this cute top that matches it EXACTLY I couldn’t pass it up. Even the material has the same sheen to it. A lucky find, indeed. I’m wearing the ribbon in my hair in the photo (don’t think it has the same effect for luck there, but I still do quite like it, and it keeps my mind on a positive outlook).

It is such a rich color and I am loving it. I tend to wear only black with this top, as it is so bold and bright any other colors would be competing. I like just one thing to stand out, and in this one it is definitely the color (though the back is a nice touch, too).

Alright Rats, may the year bring you much luck and happiness! xx

Richard Chai Raises Fashion Glamor At TARGET

August 26, 2008

It’s the unique touches that make a signature I like most, I think. For the pieces I have seen from designer Richard Chai in the nearby TARGETs, each piece stands out as something of a unique individual’s vision rather than a large produced run of the mill item.

Its the small things I love. The bold color of this outfit along with the sleek material and finish; not to mention the adorable shorts in the same beautiful matching color.

They’re too cute on their own, with nice details on the pockets and a button that wraps to just one side. Quite fun (and yes, short).

There was a dress that stood out to me too, an elegant deep purple print with a black border and gorgeous drop swoop neck. Something fun, unique and just a simple twist on a classic form.

I am looking forward to see more and hope TARGET’s designer spotlights (as well as those offered by others) continue to provide new inspirations and wonderful fashion alternatives. Great style should be accessible to all, of course.
