Nailene Gives Nails A New Look And Style
June 30, 2009

Having lovely nails is a necessity at all times- whether we are wearing nail polish or not. I know I prefer to have no nail polish over chipped nail polish at any time. Bad nails will ruin any fabulous look in an instant.
I am very grateful to have now discovered Nailene- not only are their products inexpensive but they are for the fashionista on the go. With fabulous press-on nails in beautiful designs, they also have many options for adding your own personal style into the mix. Like for instance, my new favorite toy:

This is the “French Tip Pen” and it comes in two colors- black or white. The beauty of this is how it makes applying a smooth line simple and quick. But do be aware that like anything else it takes some practice with your non dominant hand since it does act like a pen. I know I’ve gotten so used to a brush it took me a moment- but honestly by the second nail I forgot all about it and fell in love once again.
You could actually fill in the entire nail, too, if you wanted. I am going to explore the options available with this incredible tool- polka dots, little designs, stripes- oh so much to explore! A brush cannot give you that kind of flexibility or control. It applies smoothly with no glopping- just clean and beautiful.

Another luxury I have found out about this pen throughout the week is that as my nails do begin to chip, touching up takes seconds! It mixes in flawlessly and I can just fill in to missing pieces without anyone being the wiser. Love it.
If control is an issue for you they also offer these stickers you can put in place to provide a clean line. Just put them into place, swipe away with this nail polish pen- and you have a gorgeous look waiting for you.

The strips are great if you need them, though honestly I like to freehand it as I feel pretty comfortable and in control. It is especially nice, however, when you are in a hurry and don’t want to worry about it. There’s no excuse for bad nails, even on the rush.
I think I may use the stickers for playing with designs- placing them one over the other or next to each other for strips and zig zags. I’ll show you as I experiment and see what comes up.
They have so many fun options to play with, whether you are in a hurry or you have the time to really dress your nails up. I’ve been playing with some of their stickers they also offer- everything from little gems to pretty designs- just place them on the nail, layer a clear coat to keep it clean and in place, and you are done. I’ll give you a sneak peak at some of what I’ve done so far- but much more is to come soon.

Speak with you soon- if you start experimenting with your own ideas be sure to share them, I would love to see them!

Vintage Floral Hat For An Elegant Look
June 21, 2009

I love my collection of vintage hats, though it isn’t too often I get the chance to wear them. In the summer months though, I will occasionally bring out one of the more delicate hats I have and combine it with a french twist updo for an elegant and sleek look.
The hat here plays more like a hair accessory- it is feminine and delicate but very bold and stylish. I love the little details and colors of this piece, mostly consisting of a floral theme. But if you look carefully, the very back row piece is a beautiful line of bows. So darling!

The theme is almost as if from a fairy tale, but very wearable even in our modern times. I like to keep the rest of my outfit very simple with just a classic black dress, and maybe get playful with the accessories. Colors to accent are ideal and gold works very well with this hat in particular.
I think there is still room in our world for hats, kept classic with a modern twist.
Wearing this hat always makes me feel at my best, powerful, and elegant. I love that feeling! It isn’t an every day piece, but when worn it definitely makes the day a special one to remember.

Coming To You From The Future In Style
June 1, 2009

Every time I wear this dress I think, “the future” especially since Timothy has officially labled it the “I come from the future dress” ha ha. With a silver shine, shiny black belt, and unique collar- it definitely has a look and feel all to its own.
I found this fun little number some time ago at forever 21, and I still love wearing it now. It was the only thing like it at the time, and even now I still don’t see to many similar styles running around. I like having a look to myself, and this one is a fun one.

What I like about the dress, aside from the beautiful silver color, is the shape and design. I love how it has giant sleeves, a unique collar which can be closed or left open, a cinched waist that reveals the feminine form, and then builds up volume in the bottom of the dress. Volume and shape are things I love to play with in my fashion.
My silver heels passed away in an unfortunate rainy evening in South Beach, so until I find another I decided to wear my Michael Kors Grey bootie heels. Black pumps I think would also look lovely, but I felt like wearing my grays today. Ah, shoes.
For my hair, just a simple french twist with a clean puff on top. I added a headband for a final touch, it is there to look cute and has no other purpose in this instance! Timothy like’s to call this my “ballerina hair” which I can also agree with. I like the look, and it is elegant and comfortable at the same time. Lovely.

Pommard, A Love Of Luxurious French Wines
April 13, 2009

I love wine, and as the evening arrives and all is calm and quiet- I love nothing more than to relax with a glass of Burgundy. Even when we have some guests over for conversation, a bottle of luxurious wine is always present- it makes us warm and happy.
I love all styles of wines, but burgundy- or pinot noir, is my personal favorite.
So I thought this evening I would share with you what I am drinking, and be forewarned, this is certainly an earthy, full, and rich red wine.

It is a 2005, and comes from the appellation of Pommard, France- where only red wines are allowed to be produced. The wines are known for their full bodied tannic quality, and because of it do well with aging. I admit I am opening this one early (five is generally a minimum with this one, and as many as fifteen or more does very well to soften the tannins and bring out the complexity of the fruit flavors and dimensions).
I used one of my fun little wine tools to speed up the breathing process as well as letting it rest, and I must say it was still quite the treat! Definitely holds well with food- something rich and meaty like a filet, especially something gamey like venison or elk. Nom!

Very rich of red fruit- black cherry, black currant, and plum. Love it. Without the Wine Aerator Tool I have it would come across more bitter, which is why it will do better with time. This is certainly something I would purchase again (and let rest for a future celebration or gathering).
Cheers, loves!

Pour La Victoire, Seriously Haute Shoes In Noir
March 17, 2009
Alright, I have shoes on my mind and I want something with a strong bold statement. Pour La Victoire is setting just the perfect mood for me- very high heels in a clasic black color, but incredibly rich with attitude.
Brazilian made and French inspired, Pour La Victoire’s shoes are indeed very fabulous.

Above is the Paige Sandal and Tia Platform Slide, both with a gorgeous heel and filled with straps. I think I prefer the Paige for every day wear since it can be worn with most anything, but there is something so dangerous and sultry about the Tia Platform that I cannot resist. Both are killer heels to take notice of. I am adding them to my list.
Classic black heels are fabulous, but sometimes you want a little more attitude or play in structure to reinvent the timeless look- perhaps why we can never have enough black shoes… though the same applies to shoes in any color, truly!
You can find them online from endless, zappos, or your preferable place to shop for shoes- I am loving these styles very much, definitely meeting my cravings.
In fact, the Sabrina Platform below has also caught my eye- has that rock and roll glamor look and feel to it. Quite fun!

An Elaborate Hair Style For A Gorgeous Look
March 13, 2009

The crisp wind outside and frigid temperatures are perfect for wearing a fur around my neck- and to not look like a blob between my hair and my coat, an updo works wonderfully for the trick.
It also does well to transfer from the outside look of a giant coat to the inside look where I can easily take off my fur and coat and still look fabulous.
Just the other day I went for the classic french twist- a smooth very simple and elegant updo; however this time I am feeling more adventerous and want something much more elaborate. I mentioned the puff in the last post, and it had me thinking that I wanted to do it very soon.

So I started there- separating a top section of my hair to be transformed into a sleak and elegant puff and finish what ever hairstyle I would decide to do.
Then I continued by twisting many sections of my hair and playing with various techniques until I found what I liked and secured them with pins.

The entire look only took me a few minutes at most to create, and I enjoyed this glamorous look for the rest of the day and evening. Everything is so much more fun when you are feeling your best, and for me- styling my hair in such an elegant fashion does just that.
Think about taking advantage of the cool weather and practice a beautiful updo to wear with your scarves and winter accessories. Even a hat gains more character and charm when you can get a glimpse of a fabulous updo continuing from underneathe. Have a little fun and feel fabulous as you do!
The Ever So Lovely French Twist
March 9, 2009
A classic is a classic- and something I love to indulge in every now and then. When it starts to get cool outside and your outfit becomes hidden inside your coat; suddenly it is all about the hair and make-up to change the look and give it a lovely oomph.
I love this coat- it has a lovely style and it keeps me very warm. But it also becomes the only thing you see, swallowing any outfit I am wearing beneath whole. If I wear my hair down with this coat, it can look as though it is one giant piece which can be a bit overwhelming sometimes.

So I like to wear my hair up and keep my make up simple with one or two items that stand out. Balance is key.
I kept to a classic french twist and finished it with a smooth look on top (in the past I’ve added a bit of a puff or even some curls- plenty of possibilities, but this one is a classic).
It breaks up the bulk from the coat and gives a softer silhouette. And because it is such a classic I could not help but go for another classic- the oh so lovely red lipstick. They look so lovely together, and with the eyes kept simple save for a touch of eyeliner and mascara, it becomes a nice and beautiful balance.
And you know, even without the red lips- the french twist still makes for an elegant and natural look. A perfect way to move from a daytime look into an evening one

Twist It Up For A Classic Do
February 20, 2009

After I’ve been feeling ill I find it best to return in full fabulous swing with a pretty little updo. Something about putting my hair up and feeling pretty makes things much more fun, which is just the mood I want when getting things back in order.

Clean, simple, and classic- a french twist finished off with just a few curls and strands high up top; love the look and how it feels. Definitely very refreshing from what it has been like being in bed all week!
A lot of times I’ll keep the look completely smooth and flawless by wrapping the top and pinning it under- so there is this fabulous little bump on top that blends in with
the french twist. But I wanted some playfulness out of the look this time, and left the ends out to fall where they may. Gives it a little bit more character and design.
It is a fun and simple one to do but I still love the way it feels. Great way to get back in action!

Glamorous Curls Twist Into A Fashionable Updo
January 5, 2009

So now that my hair is filled with all these magnificent curls, I thought I would have a bit more fun with it. Also, sometimes I don’t want to be drowning in my own hair, and an updo can be quite refreshing as well as glamorous.

So here I have swept my hair into a classic french twist, slightly more to one side so it is just a bit off center, and allowed the curls to just fall as they desired.
I touched up the curls and made some more defining, and also pinned a couple wherever I saw fit.

Its a bit messy but I kind of like that about curls, they are allowed to be. Its natural and playful. I love the way they move as you walk too- with just the right kind of bounce. Its fun.

I like the contrast of this style- one side is completely smooth and controlled, the other is full of volume and massive curls.
If you wanted to, you could mix some of the curls on the other side as well, blend the two together. It is quite simple to do either way you like.
Here’s to more fun and style. Much love!
