Fashion In Stripes
June 30, 2010
My latest fun and fabulous find comes from Nabi on yesstyle.com- this stripped and strapless little number is comfortable and sure to get you noticed! A simple fitted design with a layer of movement gives these bold stripes an interesting look and feel.
This is all one piece. The top portion is simple and black, while the bottom plays with thick black and white stripes in different directions. With stripes like these it is easy to make a simple outfit become too busy, so be cautious in your accessories and let this piece stand out on its own. For my shoes, it is tempting to play the stripes theme a bit further, but again we don’t want to go overboard. Since the dress plays with alternating stripe directions, I thought I would incorporate that with my shoes.
They are just black with crossing straps- but against your skin you get the feel of the stripes all over again. This particular pair is from LA FRESHA on yesstyle.com. The stripes are subtle and so it plays to compliment rather than conflict. Truth be told you could even take this dress to another level with some hot colored shoes. Black and white gives you room to add a splash of color- in your shoes or on your lips. You could maybe even add a bold red belt with this one and make it your own!

Stripes are interesting, with only two tones they make such a bold pattern which attracts the eyes. Stripes that are vertical are great for lengthening your frame, as in the case with this dress. The main direction of the stripes are up and down, with the second layer just slightly going at a diagonal depending on your movement. This is clever as horizontal stripes can make you look wider than you are and shorten your frame.
But this fun little number does it just right! There are so many opportunities with this dress- how would you make this one match your own style? Would you add color, a belt, or play up the accessories? Leave a comment- I would love to see your ideas!
PS: for kicks and giggles.. this piece is very mod to me, but I cannot help wanting to also say Beatlejuice, lol. Love it ;D
Dreaming Of Silver Links
January 31, 2010

There is something dreamy about a bunch of silver strands and links elegantly combined, especially when it comes to necklaces. My normal accomplishment of such a look is by cleverly combining necklaces of various lentgths together, making sure the end result is elegant and bold but never a mess. Every now and then you find a piece that on it’s own accomplishes the look beautifully. This piece from Truffles Co. is just on case!
The combination of links and strands with a decorated piece bringing the links together, gently hanging down at an angle depending on how it is worn, works beautifully.

The miss match of link sizes with collected strands and a decorative piece with beads makes for a unique and fashionable look. Worn alone is fantastic, but it also gives you the opportunity to mix another piece into this already elaborate setup. The entire piece is designed quite long, in fact it is long enough to be worn as a belt (it is not unusual for me to find link styled belts and wear them as a necklace, lol).
The way I like to wear this style is by having half of the necklace show in the front, and have the other half decorate the back. This works great with dresses or tops that scoop in the front and the back. It can really dress up the look.

I like to wear it where half of each design is showing for a different kind of look. You could certainly wear it where each uniformed style shows from one view- one in the front and one in the back, keeping the decoration resting on the shoulder. But I like the dynamic of the mix.
Another possibility I am playing with is mixing it up as a choker or or very elaborate bracelet. With the length and change of styles there are many opportunities to explore.
I love playing around with shapes and textures, especially when they are in the same color scheme. Elaborate earrings are another fun area you see the trend in, most commonly with chandelier type earrings. I like earrings that are unique and miss matched; having the same theme so you can tell they belong together. When earrings resemble each other but have different lengths, I think that, too, is a fun style with a lot of opportunities. Take for instance this set that also plays into the links feel. This find is another item from Truffles Co. available on yesstyle.com.

Anyone can miss match a pair of earrings, but getting them to feel like a part of the same set is where it gets interesting. They either have to have been designed that way or play as a part of a theme. They have to look like they belong.
This piece from yesstyle.com does that well. You have all the same elements presented only slightly different, giving it a very unique and bold look. I love it. And it has the links and strands that I have been craving in my fashion.
What fashion cravings have you been having?

Fashion With A Little Birdie On Each Ear
August 16, 2009

I’ve been shopping and lately I’ve had an eye for earrings. I generally like to play with something elegant and different- something with its own character and story that dances between feminine sophistication and the playful imagination of childhood. I’ve found two such sets in the past couple days, here is the first set.

These earrings are from Yes Style, and last I checked still available for sale on their site. The other pair of earrings I’ll be sharing with you tomorrow sold out the moment I purchased them- I feel lucky to have gotten the last pair, they are darling!
Back to these earrings, though. Timothy calls them my “twitter” earrings, but to me they remind me of designer Alex Monroe’s style. I like the combination of loop and chain with the extra charm found in the stars. It gives a feel of daintiness and movement in a very simple piece. Beautifully designed.

This particular set is inexpensive, too- just under twenty dollars. If you do a search from Yes Style for “my little thing” and look through their earrings you will find them (and maybe some other fun unique accessories while you are there). I love these, they are so light and pretty.
Just wait till you see my other pair, though. It’s like right out of Alice In Wonderland, which is very ideal for me. Speak with you soon!

The “After The Pool” Hair Look
July 12, 2009

It was a hot summer day and I was fortunate enough to spend it in the pool with my family yesterday. When you have as much hair as I do, it can sometimes feel like a fur coat- gorgeous but very warm. So I opted to have my hair in two braids to keep cool from the heat.
It is a rare occasion that I actually get in the pool, normally I am like a cat and like to observe while soaking in the sun. Oh, I might let a foot in just for curiosity- but not too much further than that. But it was hot and the water was calling, so I went in.
And of course this means my hair would be soaked. Humidity is enough to add curls to my hair but add water and it becomes extreme as you can see here, lol.

I get massive curls- sometimes in my favor sometimes just out of control. This time wasn’t too bad and I am actually enjoying the look. I may have to do this again, just braid my hair- soak it in water and let dry after a decent towel drying.
I have a lot of hair so natural drying for me means hours, which isn’t always a fun thing. But when you are relaxing and spending time with family time moves so quickly and before you know it- hair is dry and filled with curls, ha.
I ended up changing my outfit afterward (having damp hair isn’t the best thing for your dress, either!) and took some more pictures. The curls are really holding up on their own. This is a look I may have to incorporate more often.

Nailene Gives Nails A New Look And Style
June 30, 2009

Having lovely nails is a necessity at all times- whether we are wearing nail polish or not. I know I prefer to have no nail polish over chipped nail polish at any time. Bad nails will ruin any fabulous look in an instant.
I am very grateful to have now discovered Nailene- not only are their products inexpensive but they are for the fashionista on the go. With fabulous press-on nails in beautiful designs, they also have many options for adding your own personal style into the mix. Like for instance, my new favorite toy:

This is the “French Tip Pen” and it comes in two colors- black or white. The beauty of this is how it makes applying a smooth line simple and quick. But do be aware that like anything else it takes some practice with your non dominant hand since it does act like a pen. I know I’ve gotten so used to a brush it took me a moment- but honestly by the second nail I forgot all about it and fell in love once again.
You could actually fill in the entire nail, too, if you wanted. I am going to explore the options available with this incredible tool- polka dots, little designs, stripes- oh so much to explore! A brush cannot give you that kind of flexibility or control. It applies smoothly with no glopping- just clean and beautiful.

Another luxury I have found out about this pen throughout the week is that as my nails do begin to chip, touching up takes seconds! It mixes in flawlessly and I can just fill in to missing pieces without anyone being the wiser. Love it.
If control is an issue for you they also offer these stickers you can put in place to provide a clean line. Just put them into place, swipe away with this nail polish pen- and you have a gorgeous look waiting for you.

The strips are great if you need them, though honestly I like to freehand it as I feel pretty comfortable and in control. It is especially nice, however, when you are in a hurry and don’t want to worry about it. There’s no excuse for bad nails, even on the rush.
I think I may use the stickers for playing with designs- placing them one over the other or next to each other for strips and zig zags. I’ll show you as I experiment and see what comes up.
They have so many fun options to play with, whether you are in a hurry or you have the time to really dress your nails up. I’ve been playing with some of their stickers they also offer- everything from little gems to pretty designs- just place them on the nail, layer a clear coat to keep it clean and in place, and you are done. I’ll give you a sneak peak at some of what I’ve done so far- but much more is to come soon.

Speak with you soon- if you start experimenting with your own ideas be sure to share them, I would love to see them!

Killer Gladiator High Heeled Sandals
June 19, 2009

How much do these shoes rock? Seriously! These are some killer haute heels and they just arrived for me to play with- ha ha, and I am having some fun.
The black straps are gorgeous and leave a bold impression on any style or look. With that bright red giving subtle flashes in each step, the look is even more glamorous.
These stunning heels are from “With Mocha” and called High Top Strap Sandals which are found on yesstyle.com. This was my first shoe purchase with them and I must say I am very pleased! The shoe chart was very accurate, so there were no worries there at all (phew)! It would have broken my heart otherwise. But look at these heels:

I love them! They are just stunning- I am looking forward to wearing them out tonight for an event. Definitely will make it a grand occasion.
I had them sent to my shoe person, which is something I do with all my heels that I know I will be wearing often. I add some padding to protect the shoe on the bottom and heel so they will last longer (after too many times of wishing I bought two of the same shoe because I loved it so much, this is my next best option to keep them in perfect condition).
I find it adds a lot of comfort and stability to a shoe as well. Now that these heels are ready and in hand- I am off to play!

Loving The Cocktails, Mmm…
June 17, 2009

The following post has been presented for your viewing pleasure! Some cocktails just make your mouth water staring into them, these are definitly strong candidates, talk about yummy.
I could take a bath in this first one, it is so lovely. And it is a nice balance- you cannot identify any of the ingredients since nothing overpowers another, they just blend perfectly for a unique, clean, crisp and delightful taste. I don’t know all the ingredients in this one, but I do know that gin, pineapple, and a sage leaf are involved. This drink, called the “first growth” is perfect for any occasion or mood.

Next, how about a glass of “paradise”? Also a very refreshing number, the citrus is beautiful in this aperitif. With freshly squeezed orange juice, apricot brandy, and gin- this classic cocktail is easly found to be a paradise indeed.

Next up we have a mystery cocktail- and by that I mean something the bartenders came up with after having some fun in the bar. We were fortunate enough to be included in these games with a glass of our very own to enjoy. And it was a welcoming treat. I love the look of perfect ice cubes- such attention to detail. Being this was a surprise, I couldn’t tell you the ingredients so you’ll just have to enjoy with your eyes on this one.

And I’ll finish off with a dessert cocktail, which clearly this one is and a very yummy one at that. The classic “Brandy Alexander” for your sweetest dreams. With brandy, creme de cacao, half-and-half/heavy cream, and nutmeg this is a luxurious way to finish an evening. So rich and smooth!

All of these cocktails were enjoyed at Anvil and prepared by our favorite bartender, Sebastian- he always selects and creates the best cocktails for me. Gotta love that!
Dreaming In Gold And Glitter
June 16, 2009

Playing around in my closet yesterday, I found myself with a golden trio of glittering styles. From shorts that dazzle to shoes that shine to nails that twinkle in the light. Are you dreaming in gold and glitter?
These shorts are fantastic- but I’ll get to them in a moment. When I first put them on I realized I had the nail polish to match already. Isn’t it funny how things work out like that? If you will remember my Nails That Rock: Dipped In A Pot Of Gold post featuring this golden glittered color pictured below, then you can see how fun of a match it would be paired with these fabulous shorts.

Next are the shoes, a pair I picked up from a local boutique shop in Miami forever ago and maybe spent fifteen dollars on, maybe. I used to find such great style discoveries there, you just never knew what would come up. Sizes were limited so you would always have to show up early for them. But these are real fun:

I love how the tip goes past the toe at an angle and is finished off with a little gem. Very cute and elegant subtle touch- goes a long way. The design is fabulous, too- and the fact that it has a crystal shaped “T” also caught my eye, for my name. Fun, fun.
They are an easy way to dress up an outfit as well, and are great for a glamorous day look.
Now onto the shorts- another grand find from yesstyle! The shorts come in silver as well, but I have been wanting to incorporate more gold pieces into my wardrobe and thought they were just the thing. So simple but bold in design.
I wore these with just a simple and loose black top. Not much is needed with these shorts- they are a nice statement piece on their own. A nice way to change things up when you are running around doing errands.

So there you are, something a little different and dazzling in gold. It isn’t something I would do on a daily basis- but that’s the point. Keeping it interesting, stylish, unique and fun. I love how one simple piece can change an outfit so greatly.
A Lovely Summer Look From Zara
June 9, 2009
It has been so sunny and beautiful lately that I was inspired to bring out an old favorite. I love the simple details of this dress, from the thin straps, to the shape and lines, and even just how wonderful it feels.
You can get a better feel of this look for yourself from the video posted here on the site- I’ve also added a necklace that I found some time ago at a boutique shop in Miami. I love how it has a delicate feel with the gold leaves and drops so deep. It adds another contrast against the lines of the dress that I think brings the look even more together.
The shoes are my Vince Camuto Veronica heels which I do love to wear any chance I get, they are gorgeous and fun! But I’m sure you know that by now from my previous posts on them- a very lovely find.
Speak with you soon! xx
