Sneak Peak: Elegant Gown & Photo Shoot w/Tracy Tesmer

August 30, 2009

This afternoon I had the pleasure of shooting with the amazing Tracy Tesmer of Tracy Tesmer Photography, I love this lady!

And we decided to select an elegant gown for the occasion. This dress is always fun- silky in texture and just moves so beautifully (we will have to wait to see the other photos return from the lab since they were taken in medium format). Just wait till those photos are released- they will give you a greater look into the dress and even more of the perspective from Tracy’s talent.

This dress is just so rich, and the lighting is to die for. The details on my golden clutch is just so dreamy, too. Yum!

I never can remember where I originally found this dress- it was one of those unexpected finds in a boutique, that I do remember. It was on clearance and buried, nearly forgotten. A small fragment of the dress stuck out and caught my eye. I knew I had to have it. Such a perfect design, and a very lucky find.

The brand, I have no idea. It had no name, perhaps why it was buried in a clearance section to begin with. But a dress this elegant doesn’t need one. It speaks for itself.

More photos to come soon… so keep checking in ;D

Video: A Cute And Glamorous Look For A Night Of Events

July 18, 2009

This week has been very eventful, from seeing my family to meeting great new friends and even to being invited to some spectacular opportunities- but more on that last one later!

There were two cigar events scheduled yesterday, and this video is from right before I left to attend them. The first event was so great-ran into unexpected friends and it turned out to be an evening to remember. I didn’t make it to the second event, but instead chose to have dinner with these incredibly great people.

Dinner and delicious wines I might say- an evening of cigars followed by fois gras, boudin noir, cheese, venison in blackberry sauce, sweetbreads, and poached pears, not to mention the great conversation. This is my ideal kind of night!

And so I like to dress for such occasions, even before they happen. I am always ready for anything and keep that attitude in mind. I was feeling a pink, black, and pearl theme in my wardrobe and ended up with a pretty unique and feminine look. Hope you enjoy- speak with you soon!

Cigars, Fashion, & Style- But Of Course!

June 28, 2009

I love cigars, and when something unique like this limited edition box from La Flor Dominicana comes up- I am very excited! With art design by Ruben Toledo for the bands and cigar box, this duo is a magnificent piece worth looking into.

I was enjoying a cigar at my favorite cigar shop when the owner, Kenny, came up to me and showed me this beautiful box of cigars. It is the El Museo Limited Edition Box and can only be found from elite tobacconists and select department shops. Only 2000 boxes are to be produced with a retail price of $600, so once they’ve sold out that will be the end of this particular cigar’s production- and the box will remain a collectors piece forever.

Kenny has this lovely box available in his shop, and it is beautiful to look at and tempting to taste- but for the occasion it was created for, it is to be sold as a complete set with all profits donated to El Museo del Barrio.

La Flor Dominicana produce world class cigars of which I am very fond of. And to see a fine cigar paired up with a beautiful design for a great cause is grand. I must say, I would love to indulge in one- it is oh so tempting to discover the flavors of this unique cigar.

The designer, Ruben Toledo, was born in Havana, Cuba in 1961. He is a painter, sculptor and illustrator. His wife, a fashion designer, Isabel Toledo was also drawn to the project. For the two of them it was a project of personal meaning from their own history, and one they were very happy to be a part of.

So there you have it, loves- cigars, fashion, and style!

For more information about this project or the box design, visit Cigar Aficionado or El Museo.

A Love Of Cigars: Sneak Peak

May 30, 2009

I do love a nice cigar- so full of flavor and so wonderful to indulge in for those special occasions. As you know, I greatly believe in making my own occasions and so I do love to have my cigars fairly often.  I make my own moments, with fashion as much as with food, and cigars and spirits very much among them.

Last night was one of those nights in which we felt like celebrating! I have some new gems I picked up to keep the luxury coming-I’ll let you in on a sneak peak for now and keep you informed more on them later. But last night was a special treat, and so I had a very lovely cigar in hand: The Oliva Serie V Double Robosto.

What a beautiful cigar, so wonderful I had to pick up another one this afternoon to have again soon. Everything about it is just right and what I love in a cigar, the flavors are magnificent. So smooth and rich with those dark tones- my dark chocolate lovers will appreciate this one, I know it.

I found these fine cigars at the Richmond Avenue Cigar shop for those of you who travel through Houston, a very fine shop with the people, humidor, selection and care you want. I love a place that looks over the details, and this is definitely the place.

I’ll be having more lovelies for you soon. I have some special plans for my Cabaiguan Cigar pictured at the end- ah the familiar tastes of my Miami. I have a great pairing in mind for that little gem, ooh yes!

Alright, loves- some fashionable and classic cocktails coming to you tomorrow, including a decadent delight of the 1920’s! Cocktail lovers, stay tuned.

Foamy & Creamy Tastes of Belgium

March 11, 2009

Although my favorite beers are dark beers (especially the black ones like Kostritzer), occasionally I will want something on the lighter side that is only slightly crisp, but still rich with texture and flavor. When I first tasted the St. Sebastiaan Dark I was in love- the bottle is so charming and the taste did not disappoint. It was rich and reminded me of gingerbread (which I love) and is one I will definitely be having again.

I noticed St. Sebastiaan also offered a Grand Cru in a similar ceramic bottle; naturally I chose to indulge. I was very curious to see what else they could provide as the dark bottle was so wonderful.

Wow, what a creamy and foamy head on a slightly pale pour. I could bathe in those bubbles, I love how rich they look.  And it is indeed very creamy in texture - not like anything I’ve really had before, and as unexpected as it was it made for a lovely drink. Perfect for that in-between mood when dark and heavy isn’t what you are craving but light is just too light. And the bottle it comes in is an absolute delight.

I’d recommend both for a lovely tasting, beginning with the grand cru and following with the dark for the full experience to see what you like best, if not both. I like to keep different tastes, styles, and textures in mind for the different moods of an evening or occasion, and both of these make for a yummy treat.

Falling For Winter’s Charm

March 2, 2009

Lately the weather has been showing some personality- one day it is 85 degrees and then the next it is 50 degrees. And while the sun is still out and keeping things lovely- the chill of the breeze is not something to ignore, especially when it drops another ten or fifteen degrees in the evening. Lovely.

But with this cool winter breeze I cannot help but fall for its charm and many possibilities of winter accessories. It isn’t too often that I am able to wear them, so I am excited for each chance I do get.

It was the first day of this unexpected cool front and the most notable part is the wind. Normally I would seek comfort in the hood of my cozy fur lined coat- but I thought to do something different this time! Something fun and fabulous.

And so I went for a hat, my charming little beret that I rarely have occasions to wear. I bought it from Miss Sixty some time ago and have been waiting for the chance to wear it- it is so adorable.

I have a grand collection of hats- I adore them, but most of them are designed for the spring months and do little for the cool breeze. The few I do have which are designed for winter are made of fur and are a bit over the top for this slightly cool weather. This beret makes for the perfect balance in wonderful style.

Cozy, charming, and an absolute joy to wear- I cannot help but smile while wearing this fashionable hat. I am taking this cool front with lots of style and fun. I don’t know how long it will last, but my scarves and tights are enjoying the occasion while it does!

A Fabulous & Elegant Updo Finished With A Bow

February 22, 2009

Once I start the week by playing with my hair, the trend seems to continue on its own. I just can’t help myself sometimes, it is too fun and I love to let my creativity run wild.

So I do what I normally do when inspired in situations like these- I start twisting my hair and pinning as need be until all of my hair is up and secured. I will have an idea in mind, maybe- some sort of interesting concept, and then just run with some styling of my own and see what the results create. Pretty fabulous in this case at least!

And then finished with a bow- because I love bows, and why not. It gives the look an extra playful feminine flair that I absolutely adore. An adorable bow means feeling adorable, and I love this feeling.

So here’s to playing with fabulous updos, if even just for the sake of having an updo- make it your own unique style and have a blast while doing it. You don’t need to wait for an occasion to have an elegant updo- make each day its own grand occasion and feel gorgeous for it.

Beauty In Bubble Baths & (Sometimes) Being a Baby

February 17, 2009

Because sometimes you just want to be a baby, you know? I’ve been sick the past few days and sleeping longer than even the kitties cuddled up with me- much needed and definitely beginning to feel better now. Pretty much the only thing I could get the energy to get up and do was indulge in a bath.

And for me, when I am sick I feel like a baby. So why not take it to a step further and be a little bit of a baby? The bubbles are only one direction- and for it to be right, the more bubbles the better! Definitely a way to cheer up with a bit of fun. But when sick…it can be a little different.

And it is at times like this that a soothing vapor bath does wonders (not to mention feels incredibly luxurious on its own). Feeling like a baby never felt so lovely.

I like to go all the way and use the Johnson & Johnson’s Baby Vapor  Bath, just like the babies. Why not?

Sometimes its the things of our childhood that brings us right back up to speed as adults, and more focused than ever. This is a treat I like to reserve for when I am sick, and it makes it all the more special of an occasion. Being sick doesn’t have to be a completely horrible experience - it’s all about getting better and doing so in style. That way we can get back to the things we love.

Latest Creation: Ruby Red Lychee Cocktail

February 12, 2009

Do you love it when playful creations end up becoming masterpieces? You are going to love this fabulous cocktail.

It all started innocently enough when I wanted a drink. Not just any drink, but a cocktail- something delicious and pretty. You know those nights, something boring just won’t do.

But it was raining outside and so I had no desire to go out- which means the inevitable inventing a drink with what you have on hand. Always interesting, not always a delight! But this one truly was.

So when I am in this sort of mood I tend to go for lychees- love ‘em. I have some soho lychee liqueur, but not too many options of what to mix it with. Mixed only with vodka it ends up missing something and has an unpleasant bite that takes away from the smooth flavor of the fruit. Vodka with lychee juice works fine alone, but somehow the liqueur and vodka on their own do not.  So why not grapefruit, make it a citrus cocktail with some style!

The ruby red grapefruit juice not only adds a delicious taste to the mix, but it absorbs any of the bite and blends perfectly with the lychee, giving it instead a pleasant citrus yet smooth finish. The smell alone of this drink is heavenly! You must try this, and I know you will fall in love.

It is part of its charm, so pretty and so delicious!

My hunny created the measurements for me, as my live in bartender he does fantastic work and I approve! I told him what I wanted in my drink (the ingredients listed above) and he made it work wonderfully.

6 oz ruby red grapefruit
2 oz vodka
1 oz lychee liqueur

I love simple recipes, they make up some of the best out there. This gorgeous concoction is a heavenly treat you will enjoy for all occasions! Cheers, loves!

Looking Like A Mouse Never Felt So Cute

February 3, 2009

I began cleaning the house in the early afternoon, yesterday. And when you have as much hair as I do, sometimes even a pony tail does no’t get it out of the way. It has a tendency to swing around as I am cleaning and running around.

Since I was only planning on cleaning the house, an elaborate updo was not necessary (it would only be asking for pins to be flying across the room!). And no one wants that, especially me as I would only have to clean them up anyway.

I kept it simple, and without too much thought just twisted my hair up into two little balls on top of my head. Simple enough, and I must say it felt rather cute. Why not?

Cleaning is so much easier when you are feeling cute, after all. You must always feel your best in whatever it is your doing, even if it is something as simple as dusting or mopping. It is the pretty and fabulous way of life! And it will keep you smiling and feeling great.

I kept inside the apartment most of the day, but went downstairs to drop something off- it was a quick little errand and so I didn’t think too much of it, just ran down as I was. As I reached the door leading outside the building I had to pass by our concierge, who it so happened was speaking with some guests.

They both stopped me quickly and were boasting how much they loved my hair- the whole look! They wouldn’t let me leave until they could fully inspect it and admire it. And at first I had to think and laugh, to me this was my scrubs, my cleaning look- but they made me realize again how it can work for anything.

Too funny! But I do love it- so here it is, a simple little quick updo that can be fabulous for greater occasions.
