All Tied Up In Polka Dots
March 9, 2010

Polka dots add such a playful factor to fashion. In this case, the colors are of a classic black and white, but the texture and shape are what bring this lovely pattern to our attention. Just look at that puffed sleeve. The dots against the volume and shirred sleeve really pop out.
Here we have a blouse paired with a cinched waist skirt which then flares out, ready for dancing. Both items are from MISSRAINBOW of yesstyle.com. The looseness of this blouse is just asking for something to keep it together, whether it is a belt or high waist skirt as in this set.

Honestly, the front of the skirt is the tied portion you see pictured below, but I prefer to have the tied design in the back. The structure of the skirt gives you the flexibility to chose.
With the dots gaining so much of the attention, I thought the bow did best in the back as an extra detail. Now, perhaps pairing the skirt with another top it may be a different story. With a black fitted top the bow detail might be more fun in the front. It is all about flexibility of style and you definitely have that here.

When I look at the detail of this blouse and skirt combination it makes me think of a cupcake with sprinkles! Maybe it is just me but that is a fun little image I enjoy. The way the blouse gently swoops out and over the skirt is like the frosting. It really has a soft delicate texture to it as well.
The structure of both the blouse and the skirt individually offer a lot of variety on how you pair them. Add a black top (of any form) to this skirt and you have a classic little black dress look. And this top with its beautiful pattern looks whimsical with a skirt or even paired with some jeans or shorts. There are lots of ways to reinvent your wardrobe with a couple pieces like these.

Nailene Gives Nails A New Look And Style
June 30, 2009

Having lovely nails is a necessity at all times- whether we are wearing nail polish or not. I know I prefer to have no nail polish over chipped nail polish at any time. Bad nails will ruin any fabulous look in an instant.
I am very grateful to have now discovered Nailene- not only are their products inexpensive but they are for the fashionista on the go. With fabulous press-on nails in beautiful designs, they also have many options for adding your own personal style into the mix. Like for instance, my new favorite toy:

This is the “French Tip Pen” and it comes in two colors- black or white. The beauty of this is how it makes applying a smooth line simple and quick. But do be aware that like anything else it takes some practice with your non dominant hand since it does act like a pen. I know I’ve gotten so used to a brush it took me a moment- but honestly by the second nail I forgot all about it and fell in love once again.
You could actually fill in the entire nail, too, if you wanted. I am going to explore the options available with this incredible tool- polka dots, little designs, stripes- oh so much to explore! A brush cannot give you that kind of flexibility or control. It applies smoothly with no glopping- just clean and beautiful.

Another luxury I have found out about this pen throughout the week is that as my nails do begin to chip, touching up takes seconds! It mixes in flawlessly and I can just fill in to missing pieces without anyone being the wiser. Love it.
If control is an issue for you they also offer these stickers you can put in place to provide a clean line. Just put them into place, swipe away with this nail polish pen- and you have a gorgeous look waiting for you.

The strips are great if you need them, though honestly I like to freehand it as I feel pretty comfortable and in control. It is especially nice, however, when you are in a hurry and don’t want to worry about it. There’s no excuse for bad nails, even on the rush.
I think I may use the stickers for playing with designs- placing them one over the other or next to each other for strips and zig zags. I’ll show you as I experiment and see what comes up.
They have so many fun options to play with, whether you are in a hurry or you have the time to really dress your nails up. I’ve been playing with some of their stickers they also offer- everything from little gems to pretty designs- just place them on the nail, layer a clear coat to keep it clean and in place, and you are done. I’ll give you a sneak peak at some of what I’ve done so far- but much more is to come soon.

Speak with you soon- if you start experimenting with your own ideas be sure to share them, I would love to see them!

Bombshell Shoes Of Beauty
February 24, 2009

Because who doesn’t love shoes? They’re fabulous and you know it, with so many styles, looks, and feels they are an endless joy to play with.
And play with them I will- it is one of my all time favorite things to do: relax at home with a cocktail while wearing a fabulous pair of shoes!
Sometimes I like to kick back and lounge around the house- my feet up dressed in some especially beautiful shoe and a cocktail in hand. Occasionally I will watch a movie or even paint my nails- but a cocktail and shoes are two loves that are just meant to be together.

And so with this in mind, a particular pair in my closet stood out to me last night- these bombshell beauties. A gorgeous unique heel, fabulous and sultry silhouette, polka dots (how adorable), a peek-a-boo toe and – yes, even a little cocktail garnish of its own!
Now, every time I wear these shoes it brings up a certain discussion- just what is that little decoration anyway? Personally, when I first saw them I thought them to be cherries. But then others came in protest, calling them peaches, apples, and even pineapples (really?). Whatever they are I think they are darling, and love the placement of them, too. But tell me, what do you think they are?
I am curious to know

Oh, but I do love these shoes- they are so much fun and really play up an outfit. Definitely a perfect cocktail shoe! They are from Zinc, and when I first discovered them, I also found out that the same shaped shoe comes in many many patterns and textures- from cloth prints, to denim, to leather.
I just about had a fit and purchased each one I could find in my size- only ending up with two pairs, the ones you see pictured here and then another in a nude leather with a strap that wraps across the top of the foot instead of around the ankle (also absolutely adorable!). I have had them for years but they still have that same charm as the day I found them.
I love shoes!

In the NAVY with Polka Dots
February 6, 2009

It is one of those days where I just feel like falling into the navy; not just the navy- but the deep navy with a touch of white polka dots.
I love my colors and navy blue is one that dances right between the classic black and the royal colors. It is a lovely color and I adore to wear it. It is sophisticated on its own which is grand and all, but I thought a little playfulness could brighten it up a bit and give it some more character. A more modern look for a beautiful afternoon.

Silhouettes and volume-adore what they contribute to style and so I adore to play with them. Balance can be tricky, but when taken the time for consideration the results are glamorous.
The navy in this outfit is within the short jacket and puffed little skirt. Because the two flare out in shape and silhouette I decided to wear a fitted and simple black top to blend the two together.
The bright white polka dots give the outfit a playful feel as do the adorable buttons of the jacket. I love this outfit, and with the weather being sunny with just a slight cool breeze (yes, I follow the sunshine even when the rest of the world is in snow) it makes for a perfect day to wear it. yay!

So what’s next? The hair of course- when I am feeling playful with an outfit it naturally follows into the hairstyle.
A little playful, a little messy, but still with a touch of elegance.

I wanted to wear my hair up today, this much I knew. I had yet to completely decide just how. So I did what I normally do in such situations. I play.
I started simple enough with a low pony tail, and then began to twist parts of my hair in various directions… sounds dangerous maybe but something fun generally comes out of it. Never know until you try. And so I did, and what began to be a questionable mess ended up a playful little delight.
Completely neat from the front, smooth on top and then all comes together in a boom. Loving it.
Sometimes you just have to go for it.

Loving Tokyo Fashion
January 6, 2009
Well, I am at least loving this darling little dress I purchased from a Japanese boutique called Nonno. It’s terribly cute, and I love it. Describing it may sound like a disaster, but it totally works the way I see it. And you do have to see it to believe it.

Let’s look at this dress:
Brown with light blue polka dots, a blackbig bow belt, and white frilly poofy sleeves-bet you wouldn’t seek that out on your own now would you. Nor did I, however I am pleased with the find.

Its one of those moments where you wonder “why do I like this, do I like this, I think I do, I can’t stop looking at it” and while debating you end up falling in love with it.
Got to make a decision and move with it, that’s for sure especially with fashion. If you aren’t sure, no one else will be either.
So long as you love what you wear and wear what you love all is well by me.
I freaking love this bow belt, by the way. It has a little hook underneath so it is easy to match up with any other outfit, too. A black belt on a brown dress would never have been my first choice, but why not. This is how it came and was intended to be worn and I am quite enjoying it.
