Falling Into The Blues

June 21, 2011

KVOLL Buckled Studded Platform Sandals from yesstyle.com

Summer fashion has had many neutrals, pastels, and sudden bursts of color. There has been a lot of watermelon and coral colors apparent, but what about the blues? This cool color livens up any outfit in an instant!

Take for instance these fabulous studded shoes from KVOLL. The wedged heel mean comfort when walking about in the heat, and the studs are all for attitude. Girly buckles in the front are paired with a darling little peep toe give you that extra bit of charm.

When it comes to colors like this brilliant blue, it can be fun to add a strong color somewhere else. One of my favorite ways of adding color is with make-up, and especially with the lips. I love doing a very natural clean make-up look and then adding a really brilliant color to the lips- like a bright coral or hot pink. Nail polish is another fun way to play with color- think of a canary yellow for instance. Go out of the ordinary and make an editorial look. Think of something you would expect to see “walk out from the pages of a magazine” and have fun with it.

With shoes like these, a white blouse and pair of shorts can be a simple base to start off with. Accessorize your look- throw on the bracelets, mess up the hair in that controlled “accidental” kind of look, and own your style. With summer here, curls that aren’t perfect give you that beach hair look. A messy bun done in the right fashion looks stunning. Just be sure to keep everything else polished if you are playing with messy hair styles. Keep it chic and keep it playful.

Little note: On these, if you are a half size or normally fit between different shoe sizes- this particular pair runs slightly smaller. Keep that in mind if you are unsure and go a size up!

Rosettes + Chiffon: Beauty!

May 27, 2011

THE LOOK:
OOPSLADY Sleeveless Rosette Accent Chiffon Dress from yesstyle.com

I’m obsessed with lace, chiffon, tulle, ruffles, anything sheer, and now- rosettes! Not just any rosettes… no one wants to look like they got covered in party invitation decor, but rosettes that make up an elegant accent to a design. I like rosettes that are created in a subtle fashion that compliments an outfit and takes it to another level. Subtly can be bold. That’s what I am after here. Soft delicate textures that make a strong, feminine statement.

In this dress, I have a mix of many of my favorite things! It is ruffled at the ends, a chiffon material, sheer on top, and has brilliantly placed ruffles. It is delicate and fierce all in one. The length is short, but it also has volume. Honestly, I’m thinking of wearing another skirt underneath this dress to really embellish the volume.

It is sleeveless and sheer on top, and because of the short length the volume can be out there. Your showing your limbs and thus your figure. I like the contrast. It is all about playing with silhouettes and keeping the look as a whole in balance.

Just look how the fabric falls naturally. It is elegant and takes the little black dress to a higher level. Definitely wear your hair up in a dress like this, otherwise you lose the detail of the back. If you have long dark hair like me, then you may feel like the volume on top gets a little heavy with the volume of the dress itself (dark on dark all melts together, and we want to look elegant, not… well, not the alternative!). I think a natural wavy styled hair could work if you want to wear it down, so long as the hair moves and the texture is different. But why not show the dress off? Play with an up do, twist your hair into rosettes even! Keep it fun and interesting.

Something else that appeals to me about this dress is that it slightly resembles lingerie. There’s something great about that feeling, like you are breaking the rules and wearing a nightgown out in public – and looking fabulous doing it.

Normally, I would wear a simple black heel, but I couldn’t resist showing these shoes off and sharing them with you! They are from KVOLL and are actually a simple black heel with an accessory. This means you can wear it simple, or dress it up with some attitude.  The studs are like a bracelet for your ankles and since they are not attached to the shoe, you can wear it with any of the existing shoes in your collection. Those are some serious options. Yeah, that really rocks!

I’ve been very fond of KVOLL‘s shoes, they are so different and the inexpensive price tag allows for more to play with at home. I like to have shoes in every color (I’m trying!) and they make that possible for me. Some colors aren’t practicable for daily wear, but when they are inexpensive and incredibly cute it doesn’t matter. And I love saying “yes” to more shoes!

In fact.. I just found a pair that will match this dress perfectly! I’m so excited. I ordered them in black to match my dress.. but the pink ones are pretty tempting, too! I’ll share the photos once they arrive, but in the meantime you can get a sneak peak of them for yourself here: KVOLL Chiffon Pedal Platform Sandals.

Tall, Studded, and Fringed

March 18, 2011

Heels have certainly been climbing higher and higher, but style is important when it comes to keeping those heights in check. My latest two finds have been tall (14cm), studded, and fringed out! One is in a classic black with a lot of texture and movement while the other has a bold splash of red color.

The thing I like most about the fringe on the shoe pictured above from KVOLL is that the thin and elegant heel peeks through the different lengths of fringe. The shape is beautiful and has almost a feather quality look. The studs add a little rock and attitude into the mix of an otherwise simple and feminine shape. I feel like I have some rocking wings on my heels when I wear these shoes, and I know each step I make is a statement a the fringe dances!

KVOLL on yesstyle.com VIEW MORE FROM KVOLL

The shape and distribution is perfect. With higher heels we must beware of crossing that line into the stripper style of shoes- keep it soft and feminine in the lines. We aren’t looking to make that kind of statement.

If the taller heels are a concern to you, keep with the style of heel (or lack there of) that you are most comfortable with but look to explore the stud or fringe style. Studs and fringe are everywhere, either on their own or combined as seen in this shoe. For me it is less about the “fringe” and more about the texture and introduction of movement. I like how it breaks up the shape while maintaining  clean and feminine lines.

TASSELED BACK PLATFORM STILETTOS from KVOLL on yesstyle.com

Enter color! Here we see a different use of the fringe as it is placed in a tassel on the heel. Studs keep the design in place as well as add that extra bit of attitude. Doesn’t that color just pop against he slim black line of the heel? I love it. It also comes in black or in all white which gives you another look.

I love it when I find a style of shoe that is comfortable and looks so different in another color- I’ll usually end up getting all of them so I can make the most of my wardrobe. Shoes go a long way when it comes to bringing an outfit together. Having some classic heels in a variety of colors let’s you really take your wardrobe to the next level.

I feel my most comfortable in a pair of high heels, but it was a nice little addition of KVOLL to place a soft pad as a part of the shoe. It is just a small touch for that added comfort as we adjust to thew skyscraper heels. I know I appreciate it! The red ones have it, too.

My first outfit of choice with these new killer heels? A black and gold cow-neck mini dress from Nabi! The dress has a “rocker” kind of feel to it which I see in the heels as well, so I thought why not go for it and rock it out with the fringed heel.

I know I will be having a lot of fun with this style. Have you explored the fringed or studded styles yet?

New Boots for a New Year

January 31, 2011

This month not only starts the beginning of a new year but also a new decade. What better way to start than with a pair of new boots! This year I am thinking about embracing my favorite classic styles while bringing in a new edgy twist to keep looks new and interesting.

One of the things I’ve loved seeing this past year was classic hair updos and shapes made modern with volume- keep the design in mind but blow it up for a fierce, modern, and elegant look. I like to think along the same lines when it comes to fashion.

I love boots, but wanted something with more attitude this year. Yes, the sleek smooth fitted designs are nice.. but can be boring or expected. Enter in shape plus buckles and you’ve got a pair of roaring boots. These are definitely killer and liven up any simple dress.

Speaking of a simple dress- check out this black laced dress with a white layered design. I love the contrast on this classic shape. The black and white lace gives texture and the length of the dress is perfect for letting tall boots shine.

And now for a look into the shoes!

SHOES: KVOLL on yesstyle.com (Click Here to view more shoes and boots on yesstyle.com)

Shoes give a whole new life to your existing wardrobe- from adding a splash of color to adding an in your face fierce attitude. Remember the power of your accessories!

Things I like to see in my boots include lots of lace or lots of buckles, as well as an interesting but controlled shape. Boots this tall are tricky- you want them slightly scrunched but still with an overall shape. Because they are over the knee, without a good shape you lose the elegant lines of your calf. We don’t want to lose our ankles either!

I like how these boots hug the shape of the foot and ankle, then slowly start to swell along the shape of your calf, then finish with almost a bucket style coated in buckles with two flaps going over the knee- one in the front and one in the back. the space between the flaps shows skin and reveals your length and shape. I like that contrast and find the shape quite complimenting.

A convenient zipper on the side makes these easy to wear, too. I love lace ups but when I’m in a hurry, I appreciate the zipper.

Have you found the perfect boot to fit your style for the start of this year? The weather is perfect for a killer pair of boots- show off your fierce style.

Shoes: Gaga Inspired (Ooh la la)

July 31, 2010

When I first saw these shoes on yesstyle.com, Gaga (ooh la la) came to mind. With a brilliant red color, insanely high heel, mirror silver shine, and a bow that screams fierce- I had to have them. Yes, they are kind of “out there” but I like to walk that line every now and then.

These are my latest find from KVOLL and they definitely make their presence known. Aside from feeling taller than ever, the shine and design of these heels are sure to gain attention. The rhinestone bow is what does it for me on this pair, for without it all would be lost.

KVOLL Rhinestone “Bow” Platform Sandals

on yesstyle.com

As heels climb higher and higher, we have to make sure the design is kept alive. A platform helps keep your foot comfortable, but too much of either the heel or platform begins to look, well… not the look we are going for lets just say *ha*. I like how the silver divides up the red on the platform heel, slightly softening the height it brings. The lines make it more slender and interesting. But in this shoe, it is all about the sparkly bow. This is a serious pair of red heels!

The bow makes me think of hello kitty, but all grown up. Perhaps that is where Lady Gaga comes to mind for me. I’ve only worn these out once, with a simple structured red dress, simple make up and straight hair. I’ll let the shoes make the statement and stand out on their own.

What fashion inspirations have you been craving?

Look For Fall: Mesh Details

July 24, 2010

Mesh is making a presence as fall arrives around the corner. You are starting to see it as a detail in accessories- from shoes, shirts, dresses, skirts, and more. It gives a new texture and feel to your style. Mesh is a funny material and can be a big hit or miss depending on how it is worn. We want to use the texture and add some contrast all while keeping things glamorous and pretty.

KVOLL Shoes: Lace-Up Tulle Overlay Pumps

from yesstyle.com

In these shoes from KVOLL on YESSTYLE.com, we have a nice soft beige contrasting against the black mesh bunched around the ankle. This gives an otherwise soft toned shoe some edge. Mesh can bring items from simple to fierce.

I’m really starting to fall for Kvoll, their shoes are inexpensive and incredibly fun and interesting. For the price, I am quite surprised at the comfort of these heels.. they fit like a glove and are soft to the touch.

The details don’t stop with the mesh, either. We also have the large eyelet rings bringing another element of beige against the black via the lace. I love the way it looks against the skin, it stands out so nicely! This could give a summer dress some rock glamor.

At the bottom of the shoe we see a sparkling covered platform- not over done but definitely a wow factor. These are some killer rocking heels at under $50. I’m loving them.

And I’m enjoying the idea of playing with mesh and tulle a lot more. You are starting to see it creep into the details of our dresses, ruffles, and shirts. It is like a new alternative to lace.. but instead of dainty more of an edgey appeal. Think more sexy than cute. I have my eye on some mesh dresses and one pieces, mixed in with body suits for interesting designs. I’m looking forward to where these designs take us, but for now I’m enjoying my heels.

Zac Posen For Target + Zahir Kill Heel From YesStyle

May 17, 2010

The amazing Zac Posen has been the latest fabulous designer to create a collection for TARGET; and a fabulous dress requires some fabulous heels. Fortunately, I found both the dress and the killer heels just in time. First, let’s take a look at the dress and then we will get into the shoes!

Ruffles, ruffles, and ruffles- oh  my! I love the subtle contrast the navy color gives against the black, and the sheer shiny brilliance is purely a bonus. Fitted underneath and voluminous waist down, this is a stunning piece. When looking online, it seems this beautiful design also comes in an all red version. I wasn’t fortunate enough to find it in a store, but I still am all about the two tones seen here (Besides, I already have my red dress!).

Now, what I didn’t realize at first was that this is actually two pieces. Not a top and a bottom, but a full on dress with the decor being the second piece. The black fitted portion can be worn as a dress on its own, or it can be elaborated with the second piece, the ruffles, as seen in the photos above. I’m curious to play around with the ruffles to see how I can mix it with the rest of my wardrobe. They are too fabulous to be left alone!

Now, on to the shoes!

ZAHIR: KILL HEEL

With a name like kill heel, you know I had to have them. Mwah. And they look the part. Elegant with a beautiful arch and subtle round toe- these shoes are a classic with a beautiful texture and feel. They dress up any outfit, or as in the case with this elaborate dress, make a perfect compliment. We all need a perfect pair of heels for “that special dress” and for me it’s the kill heel from Zahir. I’ve been looking at more shoes from Zahir after having fallen in love with these, they have a very runway look and feel to them without going overboard.

The bottom has a clever and very nice design of Zahir’s branding, but what’s interesting about it is that because the text is raised it gives you a great grip as you walk. This makes each step very powerful and comfortable. Design with function- love it.

*Sigh* Dress and shoe heaven, nominess. Even my fashion kitty, Aveline, approves, ha!

Shoe Lust: Heels To Fall For

May 6, 2010

I’ve been doing a little window shopping which somehow always leads me to finding new shoes. Ones to dream about, ones to match dresses to, and then ones that amaze you in price. At least that has been the case for me. Wow, have I found some killer heels that are no-guilt when it comes to meeting your budget!

FIRST: The Under $50

KVOLL is a brand that is new to me on yesstyle.com. I just ordered a pair (not pictured here, I want to surprise you when they come in!) to get a feel for their style and quality. Now, for the price they are currently listed at… it is pretty impossible to resist. They are adorable! I’ll let you know what I think once my shoes arrive. Right now, I’m just excited about the look of them.

You can find out more about each shoe pictured in this post by clicking the image of the shoe. Prices are always subject to change but at the time of writing this post, the two shown above are only $35. Yep!

COCOEVE is a brand I have purchased from in the past with wonderful results. Their darling and fashion forward designs have always caught the attention of shoe admirers when I am wearing them. The shoes pictured just above and below are both from Cocoeve. Aren’t they fabulous?

The ones above are prefect for any occasion, and the gold chains add an extra fabulous factor. The color tone is soft and elegant, but the design gives it that extra it factor.

The red little darlings below have me going “awe” each time I look at them. I just purchased a darling little red dress and I keep thinking these shoes, with their cute little bow, would be an adorable combination.

Okay! Next up….

The Over $50 and Under $100

Just in the next price level, these are shoes that have that dream-like quality.

MIZ SHOES: First of all, love the color. I’ve been getting more dresses in this exact shade even. The design is dainty and feminine and has that high fashion look. It reminds me of something that would have just stepped off the runway. These are beautiful, and they also come in black. Black may be a classic, but I vote for the color on this one.

STYLEKELLY: Keeping in the feel of spring and summer, these are a pretty and girlie and elegant shoe for any lady of fashion. The ruffles are eye catching but not over the top, and the dainty bow is just precious. I like the color here as it is perfect for the nude and lighter shade dresses. A floral dress could go great here, too. I’m loving the look of these!

LA FRESHA: From pretty and delicate to bold and fierce, these heels let people know you are serious! I have many shoes from LA FRESHA in my closet and wear them regularly-they are comfortable, look fabulous, and so far have been holding up well. I can wear my shoes pretty hard from time to time, so something that can keep up with me is important.

This has a gladiator or armor type look to them. They are unique and definitely statement makers. Color wise they stay to a simple black with gold accents, but look at this design. An elegant toe and then an edgy ankle, what a combination. I really like the way the ankle cuff is large and fitted, but also has a large cut in the back so it doesn’t swallow up your ankle completely. You want the skin to show to keep the form flattering. This is a serious shoe I have my eyes on- love it!

Ah… I love looking at shoes. Well these are the ones giving me new inspirations; I’ll be sharing some of my recent favorites I’ve been wearing with you over the next week. Stay tuned!

Pretty In Pink For Spring

April 2, 2010

Spring is here and pastels have returned to style. Nudes and light pink shades are especially very nice this season. My latest find is a very pink and girlie number that is… well, as girlie as it gets! With a beautiful mix of textures, layers, and even a beautiful pair of shoes to match- this is a spring feminine dream.

DRESS: SHY SHY Set-Sequined Tulle Camisole + Satin Tulle Hem Slipdress

SHOES: STYLE LINE Open-Toe Platform Stilettos

Both these pieces are available from YESSTYLE. The shoes are available in a few different colors, and as tempting as the classic black pumps are, I had to go for the pink and push the girlie factor with this whimsical dress.

Just look at all the elements going on here. Sequins, satin, a frilly skirt and mix of textured layers all come together with the single light pink color base. The shoes keep the color a solid look and add an extra girlie touch with a heart shaped charm. With girlie numbers like this, spring has a lot to offer us this year.

These shoes have a nice cushioned feel to them and the design is very playful. Color aside, check out the detail of this zipper design and heart shaped charm finish:

A classic high heeled peep-toe shoe gets a whole new look with a zipper accenting line and charm in the back. In any color, these shoes rock!

I actually have a few pink dresses and tops in the same shade and am looking forward to matching them with my new heels. But this dress takes the show, it’s just darling and perfect!

What colors are grabbing you this spring?
