Dreaming Of Elegant Silver Styles

April 18, 2010

(And An Elegant Side Braid…)

Spring is here and is filled with beautiful colors, pleasant pastels, pinks, nudes, and shimmers of silver. I like to play with the youthful attitude spring provides for us in our fashion by keeping looks simple, clean, and very fresh. This means in both our clothing items as well as our hair and make up.

Here I have kept the focus on two solid and bold colors: hot pink and silver. Everything else is natural, nude, and soft to build a pretty contrast without going over the top. Because the make up is so light and clean, save for the bold lipstick, I wanted to do something with my hair to break up the symmetry.

With a bubble style dress, tiered in this case, there is plenty of volume so I want to allow more for the feminine form through the limbs and neck, rather than the waist which is hidden. And so I swept all my hair to one side to make a simple and thick braid. When your hair is as thick as mine, you can also add some form by  making a curve to rest on your shoulders.

The dress is from designer TIAN MU of YESSTYLE.com. I purchased this some time ago and am enjoying it now in the sunny weather. The shine is mesmerizing and I love how the tiers go slightly longer in the back. If you wanted to make it form fitted then all you need to do is add a belt and change up the style completely. Gotta love that in a dress!

Are you dreaming of silver this spring?

Dreaming Of Silver Links

January 31, 2010

There is something dreamy about a bunch of silver strands and links elegantly combined, especially when it comes to necklaces. My normal accomplishment of such a look is by cleverly combining necklaces of various lentgths together, making sure the end result is elegant and bold but never a mess. Every now and then you find a piece that on it’s own accomplishes the look beautifully. This piece from Truffles Co. is just on case!

The combination of links and strands with a decorated piece bringing the links together, gently hanging down at an angle depending on how it is worn, works beautifully.

The miss match of link sizes with collected strands and a decorative piece with beads makes for a unique and fashionable look. Worn alone is fantastic, but it also gives you the opportunity to mix another piece into this already elaborate setup. The entire piece is designed quite long, in fact it is long enough to be worn as a belt (it is not unusual for me to find link styled belts and wear them as a necklace, lol).

The way I like to wear this style is by having half of the necklace show in the front, and have the other half decorate the back. This works great with dresses or tops that scoop in the front and the back. It can really dress up the look.

I like to wear it where half of each design is showing for a different kind of look. You could certainly wear it where each uniformed style shows from one view- one in the front and one in the back, keeping the decoration resting on the shoulder. But I like the dynamic of the mix.

Another possibility I am playing with is mixing it up as a choker or or very elaborate bracelet. With the length and change of styles there are many opportunities to explore.

I love playing around with shapes and textures, especially when they are in the same color scheme. Elaborate earrings are another fun area you see the trend in, most commonly with chandelier type earrings. I like earrings that are unique and miss matched; having the same theme so you can tell they belong together. When earrings resemble each other but have different lengths, I think that, too, is a fun style with a lot of opportunities. Take for instance this set that also plays into the links feel. This find is another item from Truffles Co. available on yesstyle.com.

Anyone can miss match a pair of earrings, but getting them to feel like a part of the same set is where it gets interesting. They either have to have been designed that way or play as a part of a theme. They have to look like they belong.

This piece from yesstyle.com does that well. You have all the same elements presented only slightly different, giving it a very unique and bold look. I love it. And it has the links and strands that I have been craving in my fashion.

What fashion cravings have you been having?

Accessory Love: A Perfect Match!

October 19, 2009

Don’t you love it when you unexpectedly come across an accessory that matches one of your own, in color and in texture? It can be a rare treat, but one that will last a long time within your fashion wardrobe.

Just the other day, yet again at Target, before heading to the checkout I decided to take a glimpse into their bags and scarfs. I wasn’t really expecting to purchase anything, but then there it was, this bag. Shimmering just subtly in the light, and in the exact same style as my Michael Kors shoes which I love so dearly.

I didn’t have to question it, just accepted that it was meant to be. Even more so when you consider the price- only ten dollars, ha. What a treat!

Now, the shoes had a much higher price on them, but that is part of the beauty of this find. It makes for a rich combination- style is determined by personal style and not by price. There is no one and only, but what makes you happy and what you feel confident wearing. Sometimes it is a treat to spurge on a luxury items, other times they find us at a bargain. It doesn’t matter- they are all fabulous finds.

When something matches this well, I like to play it carefully. Normally I’ll let these two items be the only things that match in my outfit, keeping the rest very simple. I think the matching stands out more without being overpowering. You want to compliment it. But every now and then I’ll get in a mood to go all out.

When I go all out- I’m looking for consistancy in color (kind of like all black) and keeping the focus on the shape and silhouette. Matching takes some strategy to get the look to work just right. And I think I’ll be having some serious fun with these two accessories together.

Dreaming In Gold And Glitter

June 16, 2009

Playing around in my closet yesterday, I found myself with a golden trio of glittering styles. From shorts that dazzle to shoes that shine to nails that twinkle in the light. Are you dreaming in gold and glitter?

These shorts are fantastic- but I’ll get to them in a moment. When I first put them on I realized I had the nail polish to match already. Isn’t it funny how things work out like that? If you will remember my Nails That Rock: Dipped In A Pot Of Gold post featuring this golden glittered color pictured below, then you can see how fun of a match it would be paired with these fabulous shorts.

Next are the shoes, a pair I picked up from a local boutique shop in Miami forever ago and maybe spent fifteen dollars on, maybe. I used to find such great style discoveries there, you just never knew what would come up. Sizes were limited so you would always have to show up early for them. But these are real fun:

I love how the tip goes past the toe at an angle and is finished off with a little gem. Very cute and elegant subtle touch- goes a long way. The design is fabulous, too- and the fact that it has a crystal shaped “T” also caught my eye, for my name. Fun, fun.

They are an easy way to dress up an outfit as well, and are great for a glamorous day look.

Now onto the shorts- another grand find from yesstyle! The shorts come in silver as well, but I have been wanting to incorporate more gold pieces into my wardrobe and thought they were just the thing. So simple but bold in design.

I wore these with just a simple and loose black top. Not much is needed with these shorts- they are a nice statement piece on their own. A nice way to change things up when you are running around doing errands.

So there you are, something a little different and dazzling in gold. It isn’t something I would do on a daily basis- but that’s the point. Keeping it interesting, stylish, unique and fun. I love how one simple piece can change an outfit so greatly.

Coming To You From The Future In Style

June 1, 2009

Every time I wear this dress I think, “the future” especially since Timothy has officially labled it the “I come from the future dress” ha ha. With a silver shine, shiny black belt, and unique collar- it definitely has a look and feel all to its own.

I found this fun little number some time ago at forever 21, and I still love wearing it now. It was the only thing like it at the time, and even now I still don’t see to many similar styles running around. I like having a look to myself, and this one is a fun one.

What I like about the dress, aside from the beautiful silver color, is the shape and design. I love how it has giant sleeves, a unique collar which can be closed or left open, a cinched waist that reveals the feminine form, and then builds up volume in the bottom of the dress. Volume and shape are things I love to play with in my fashion.

My silver heels passed away in an unfortunate rainy evening in South Beach, so until I find another I decided to wear my Michael Kors Grey bootie heels. Black pumps I think would also look lovely, but I felt like wearing my grays today. Ah, shoes.

For my hair, just a simple french twist with a clean puff on top. I added a headband for a final touch, it is there to look cute and has no other purpose in this instance! Timothy like’s to call this my “ballerina hair” which I can also agree with. I like the look, and it is elegant and comfortable at the same time. Lovely.

Chic Coral Hidden Treasures: Collection Disovery Part II

May 12, 2009

If you loved the first entry on Sonia Kashuk’s Coral Reef Hidden Treasure Brush Collection from TARGET, you are really going to love this!

My fiancee is wonderful and always thinking of me- after making a quick visit to TARGET to pick up a couple items for us, he brought me back a surprise. Look and see how lovely it is:

This is the Highlighter Brush, a continued piece to the limited edition Coral Reef Hidden Treasure Collection from Sonia Kashuk, a TARGET exclusive. Another beautiful gem to add to your collection!

It is very soft like the other brushes from the collection, with the same coral detail as you can see in the photos. We stopped by TARGET again today to see if there were other brushes or pieces to the collection, however this was the only notable addition I could see.

There is a highlighting powder available with the same box decor, but the actual piece itself does not match the coral. The case it is in is just a smooth silver triangle with smoothed edges- nice but doesn’t grab me nearly as much. I’d just as well keep my brushes and use them with my existing make up collection I have at home.

I thought this was fabulous- gorgeous brushes at affordable prices at one of my favorite shopping locations. I love this!

Dressed In A Silver Wonderland

March 29, 2009

It turns out sultry silver eyes was just the start- and it turned into a wonderland of silver everything. From one of my favorite comfortable and elegant dresses to classic silver accessories. Silver will forever be a favorite of mine.

Mirrors, a fine print design, and a silky feel that just flows as you walk, this dress has it all and the color and shine to bring it all together.

It has a loose fit that just gives hints of the natural figure as you walk, very subtle and very elegant. And the shine is just gorgeous, blends with the jewelry in a very lovely fashion. In fact, I wore some of my Tiffany & Co. collections to compliment this dress, as well as a fun little fashion ring for that added glamor.

Silver shoes are also a fun favorite of mine, unfortunately my silver heels experienced a rather rough fashion event in which they did not survive. Some events are just not pretty-shoe friendly. Heartbreaking, but it only means I must seek new ones.

Here’s to the love of silver styles.

Sultry Silver Smoky Eyes

March 27, 2009

After playing with brilliant bold colors (like coral and gold), I am ready for a more sultry elegant look- and for me silver is just the color. There are endless possibilities, and this morning I decided to lean on the bolder side of silver. Nothing too out there, just a subtle hint through some dramatic eyes in my makeup.

And so I played with my make up to do a classic look with a silver glow. A nice touch of eyeliner to elongate the eyes and really make them pop combined with the classic smoky eye make up- only with more of a silver presence to make the look all the more dramatic and glamorous.

My lashes are pretty long to begin with naturally, but when you add the Le 2 Mascara from Guerlain it maximizes the volume and length like nothing else (I love it).

It is more about the silver faded into the hint of dark gray that collects at the ends of the eyes- one side with a fine eyeliner and the other with the rich smoky finish.

The finished look is simple but quite bold- a little can go a long way. It doesn’t take long to do but the results last the entire day and feel flawless. This is a fun look to do and a great way to get excited about the day.

I did mine with silver and gray colors- however if you’re looking for even more, go for the gold. Use a nice bronze or gold and mix it into a darker shade of brown- definitely rich and glamorous as well. Even a dark purple could prove to be royal and luxurious.

Play around and make it your own, simple is key as a little goes a long way. Its the details that count.

Marvelous Margarita Perfection

February 10, 2009

margarita_cocktail

Yum! So the other day we had an unexpected and delightful brunch with some friends. It kind of came together at the last minute but worked out beautifully.

It was such a gorgeous day- sunny with a nice cool breeze, the kind of weather you dream about, and we enjoyed ourselves sitting outside on the patio. We kept seeing tables nearby order these delicious looking drinks and so we could not help but also indulge. When we saw the description about it on the menu as part of a review, we were instantly sold.

“The perfect blend with the perfect ingredients, Herradura Silver, Cointreau & fresh lime juice, served straight up, or on the rocks.”

Within one taste we were in love and ordered more for the table. The balance with the lime was just perfect, especially for an early afternoon drink. It made the day even more pleasant.

They call it “The Perfect” and it is perfectly delightful. No nonsense, just yummy.

Cookie, Cookie, Cookies

September 8, 2008

I love cookies, lol. I was out and about early this morning and decided to make a stop at my favorite French bakery in town, rightly titled French Gourmet Bakery. I remember coming here as a child with my parents to purchase fresh bread for delicious meals at home. So this place and I go back, I love it.

Me and cookies are very much like that episode of Family Guy where Stewie has a crush on the little brunette girl who’s line of notice throughout the show was “Cookie?” For then Stewie to find out she never liked him- it was only for the cookies. Mmmm, cookies, haha, that would be me, too.

My craving came from the other night- we were enjoying some wine with our neighbors when someone said cookie, and both she and I instantly start saying cookie and that we want a cookie.

Now I have them, and yum! Your classic chocolate chip and oatmeal raisin are pictured at the top- chewy and magical, simply perfect. This bakery can do no wrong, not once in all these years have I ever had a bad experience.

Following the classics, is another one in my heart- the thumb print cookie. Perfectly crumbly with the right amount of moistness that melts only when placed in your mouth, oh and the chocolate they use is ridiculous how great it is. My “I don’t like chocolate” friends fight for the last bit of it. Truly, a must have.

The last one is an iced ginger cookie with the little silver ball sprinkles. Simplicity goes far with this one, and all the spices are just right.

Normally I do like to bake my own cookies, but I have not done so in a while. Besides, this place for me is an extra special treat.

Here’s to the love of cookies. I dare you not to want one, now [ LOL ].

P.S. I just found out they now deliver online (their cookies at least, cakes are in store only). So if you are in for a treat take a look: http://www.fgbakery.com – much love!

Glamorous New Looking Dress Sleeves

August 14, 2008

I love it when a simple dress has just one distinct creative uniqueness that redefines the whole look. That is exactly what this dress is.

The sleeves are sequined and slightly puffed- then tighter around the arm- except unlike traditional puffed sleeves this one has revealing cut outs that are incredibly glamorous.

Everything else about the dress is subtle and simple- complimenting the sleeve design perfectly. It has the popping wow factor while flawlessly transitioning into sophistication.

I found it in this little Japanese Boutique called “Nonno” where the offer only two or three of each dress at the most. All clothing items are uniquely one of a kind- such a treasure, so long as you are there before it is gone. I’ll show you more unbelievably fun designs from them soon, too.

As for this particular dress- it has inspired me to find more of the same. Maybe not all in dress formats- how cute would a puffed open sleeve be on a white cashmere top (maybe some silver or gold jewel embelishment) and with khaki shorts?

Or any other style of garment for that matter. I want to see more of it. This is a trend I can really enjoy.
